The proposed waterfront stadium that is.........IMO I think it’s ugly and looks like white chocolate donut. My thoughts are that if they definitely don’t want to upgrade Eden Park, pump the money into North Harbour stadium. At least there’s a base for existing transport infrastructure and space to spread out a bit. I think this urban/projects designer needs a slap. The stuff being pumped out lately is horrid. Is it another sad old case where the public don’t have their say and it will be built regardless?
If they were building it, surely being a city of sails you’d build something around a nautical or kiwiana theme? Where the heck would they stuff the container ships and container wharf, theres bugger all boat space down there now?

As someone who had a little to do with Britomart 
before it became the 'bastard daughter of Britomart' (thanks Fluffy & Co 
) they would have some real fun with the foundations. It is not the most robust geology down there.
And yes we could really send the economy down the toilet by shagging around with the container terminal without doing the proper analysis.
With the little time that is left I think they should either:
- Do a combination upgrade of Eden Park with some extra permanent seating and some extra temporary seating to get to the 60,000 in the NZ bid to the IRB; OR
- Upgrade North Harbour Stadium (again with a permanent/temporary combo) (although I don't agree with extending conventional heavyrail up there); OR
- Build at Avondale Racecourse; OR
- Build the Manukau Harbour option (I think it's Pikes Point or something?)

Perhaps all that extra concrete will put enough stress on the geology to grow a fracture right down to the magmatic layers...

I…couldn’t really care less, like many who live outside Auckland I can detach myself from its problems. It could virtually be it’s own little country and make no difference to the rest of us (some of the power crazed local councillors may enjoy that immensely!).
Edit: But keep on paying your taxes, they keep the rest of us in expensive road projects and ensure you can commute in the miserable congestion you have become accustomed to.

Well it would be known as "The Bed-Pan" rather than "The Cake-Tin".
I think the vote must have been everyone returning their old silver coins that will be smelted down to make the bedpan.
I wonder if Uncle Helen's electorate staff have told him about the constituents views of the 'Mixed Use' development that would go in the place of a defunct Eden Park.

Couldn't they stick another sponge layer on in wellington?
I can't believe everyone was excited to get the rugby world cup here - the infrustructure is nowhere near good enough. We're all going to end up paying for it for years to come and the IRB will be the only ones making any money from it!
The idea I had the other day for a stadium was to build a great big ship with a playing field installed in the middle. That way you can move it around the country or world hosting various events. This way you could probably recoup some of the costs by renting it out to smaller countries who can't afford to build a stadium........
