Advice needed - Palm Tungsten T
Discussion
I am considering changing my trusty iPAQ (3630) for a new Palm Tungsten T.
What's the score with a Palm vs Pocket PC?
I use my iPAQ for mobile email & a little surfing, writing the odd note and organising my contacts & diary. Can you still sync with Oulook with a palm?
Is it worth doing the change or should I stick with my old stager?
Over to you...

I've got a Tungsten (my 3rd Palm after migrating from Psion). I can't find any faults with it - it's simple to use and I really like the way they made the size smaller so it is pocket-friendly. It syncs with Outlook (calendar, inbox, cotacts etc) on my laptop via a USB that also enables you to recharge the Tungsten's battery while on the go.
I use the Documents to Go software on the Palm so that I can read and edit Word, Excel, PowerPoint files and have installed version 5.004 of the Adobe Reader for Palm which is excellent. I've also got the PhotoBase software for pics.
Then screen has outstanding clarity. I haven't used the GPRS or Bluetooth connectivity yet so can't comment on that. I have got the ultraslim fold-up keyboard into which the Tungsten clips so that I can take notes at meetings, on the plane etc. Saves lugging the laptop around.
Hope that helps

oh, and one big difference between an Ipaq and a Palm - batteries..... Like they last more than a few hours! The older Ipaqs are / were crap though the new ones are pretty good. The Palm has always been good and you should be able to get a day or two of work out of them before recharging...
Personally like the Palm and its abilities (its simple and easy to use), but fell into PocketPC's for the simple reason that it did the things that I wanted - like GPS navigation in colour with moving maps (which at the time the Palm didnt). Dont regret the Ipaq that I have, but should I be in the position again, the choice would be hard...
Cheers,
Paul

I completely agree. The battery life is pretty good so long as your kids don't get addicted to playing games on it. Also, the backlight is always needed and using it with the light off significantly increases time between charging.
Many thanks all, it is the battery life that is most annoying on the iPAQ at the moment, it needs to be charged every other day...
The GPS thing, is there one available for the Palm, cos that is the only thing would like that seems to be available for the iPAQ & not the palm...
Cheers, Chris

Tungsten T is the way to go.
Excellent battery life
Compact size.
I use it for Email, Word, Powerpoint, Excel.
Bluetooth is really usefull makes SMS a dream and GPRS connection to the web is very cheap.
(I can read PistonHeads while in the pub)
But I must admit I'm biased as I work for Palm
Cheers

I have an old M500 and was recently given a Tungsten T. I would love to switch up to the Tungsten T but I cant use Avantgo to read the newspapers in the TT. Something about the operationg systm in the TT being incompatible. Is there another way of getting downloads? I cant survive the commute home without reading reactionary bullshit in the guardian.

There's a beta version of the new AvantGo software that is compatible with Palm OS5 - it was released last week http://avantgo.com/support/beta_news.html
