Its a 2005 '55' Boxster S

I tried to start the car yesterday & it wouldn't turn over. A message then came on the screen saying something about getting the engine checked. It then started but sounded very noisy.

Today, it started fine & there's been no problems. Having spoken to the dealer, was told to phone Porsche assist, which was done & they also couldn't find any problems.

The dealer says the they will not look at the car until there is an apparant problem & as this seems to have gone away then theres nothing for them to do.

So, has anyone seen a message regarding an engine check before ?

I had the same light appear on mine last year, took it to the local specialist as local OPC stated 2 weeks just to look at it, anyways, the indy hooked it up to a laptop and said there was a single missfire in cylinder 1, prolly a coil pack, they replaced all the coil packs and its been fine ever since (touch wood)

this was a 996 though not a boxster

I have. Each and every time the sodding lambda sensor burnt out. Until they changed out the exhaust that was causing the lambda sensors to burn out. rolleyes It was on the fourth occasion as I recall. rolleyes

Sounds like this could just have been an intermittent, possibly software, glitch?

Dealer has said they won't look at it until there's an apparent fault confused

I suspect if an error message was important enough to showon the screen, it'll be on the ECU. Tell them not to be such lazy gits.

If it was me (and this is Probably not the best thing to do, but I am female!) I would wait and see if it happens again, or you hear any interesting sounds, then just take it straight to a specialist/Porsche

My 2006 987 has done that twice this year. I get an error message in the central display (can't recall exactly what it says) the engine then starts normally at the second attempt. Next time I will phone Porsche Assist...

Cracked coils allow moisture in - particularly in the Spring and Autumn - these lead to misfires and upset everything but once the car fires up OK, they run Ok and warmth dries the problem away. However any misfire is recorded in the computer - so if it happens again - the lady gave good advice - go somewhere else to see if the fault was indeed picked up - then go ape.
