Triple Plenum on 98 500
Discussion
My engine has a 224 cam, Bosh injectors, Carbon fibre trumpets, smooth bore induction pipe and two MA re-maps.
I am now moving towards an Emerald ECU, primarily to tackle the shunting, get rid if the Dizzy and ultimately to also run the fuelling. I have been considering for some time an ACT Triple Throttle plenum to help the breathing a bit more and it would seen sensible to fit the Plenum before doing the mapping.
So, my question is:- has anybody with a similar set up tried the Triple plenum and what was the result ?

Not tried the tripple plenum but have the twin. Don't know how Bonkers that cam of yours is; I have the H404 and that certainly makes for a lumpy constant throttle low engine speed ride (sub 1.8K). Also went the mapped ignition (Omex) route too, but despite what I'd been told, it really made no discernable improvement to the shunting. It did however make the biggest difference to the way the motor feels: much stronger feeling; more urgent; more responsive.
I guess ideally you'd do the plenum thing at the same time as the Emerald but of course it's huge money in combination. I'm sure these after market carbon plenums can now be picked up second hand through the likes of e.bay and possibly even Tim at ACT.

steve,
the tripple won't help shunting, but will give more top end, power/torque.(i'm sure you know that) the carbon stuff does have added temp benefits (you can also here it breathe in the tripple carbon
) sound a bit like a blower.
the emerald however, MAY do some good, particularly if you bin the dizzy and remap both fuel/spark.
most of the shunting appears to be in that area, but the stroke and crank of the 500 don't help. mines balanced (properly)and running on carbs and its a hell of a lot better than the std engine was, but its still there under 1500. havn't got trick spark tho...yet

Considering doing something similar, depending on a change of cirucmstances in the next few months, but with my 400 and going to Omex. I already have the Triple on the car and it works absolutley fine. Best thing to do is give ACT a ring and they can advise you as to whether you will need a triple or double.

What I heard from ACT when I bought mine is that the triple plenum is for heavily modified engines only. For most the twin is best. But talk to ACT about it.
Tim told me that there were definite benefits from a triple on a standard 500 but it wasn't really suitable for a 400 or 450.
Having said that, I had just told him I had an unmodified 500 and that I loved the triple.
Edit: Blimey, Gerjo. If your car isn't "heavily modified" then I don't know what is.

I had a triple plenum 'kit' put on my Griff 500 .... along with Bosch injectors, larger AFM and an MA remap. The car is otherwise standard having previously only had an MA remap and ACT inlet pipe. Power went from 221 at the wheels to 244 on Austecs 'old' rolling road. It made 239 ATW on their new one.
The main thing though is the way the car feels now - it's completely different and much smoother. It still has some 'shunting' but nowhere near as bad. Which bit of the mod has done that is impossible to say though but together with a standard cam it is certainly much better than before in traffic and revs so much more freely at the top end. Power has moved about 500rpm higher and it will spin to 6K without problem.
A different cam would no doubt make things more interesting but that will have to wait a bit as I have run out of money
The mods allowed the timing to be advanced quiet a bit which is going to make it smoother - the only downside (apart from the cost) is that the new found smoothness brings a quieter car

Yeah, I know; I bought the twin plenum when the engine was still a standard 5.0. In hindsight I should have gone for the triple, I know, but I don't think it will make a lot of difference. It's plenty fast anyway.

You could probably get a reasonable amount back selling the twin secondhand if you upgraded to the triple.
You know you want the triple gerjo...... it just looks soo cool! My car runs the triple, which is probably a little too much for the 400 but still the power delivery is very smooth and the torque is good. On the cards are some pinkie injectors and the Omex system. Then I will be complete!
Until I can get the funds for that lightened and balanced 4.6 block

I kind of fancy the Omex system, a slightly more aggressive cam and a nice ceramic manifold from ACT ..... oh, but thats another £3K gone !
Perhaps if I tell the wife the cam has worn out, the manifold cracked and it's down to a poor mixture as the ECU is playing up .... or then just not tell her

Blimey my old V8S used to make at least 235 atw on a sinlgle penum 4ltr on the old road
, seriously though, probably not in the same league for torque, which is what really counts with the RV8. Looking forward to seeing what 350 atw with the Cerb will be like.
I have now put the 5 litre engine back in my Griff and have all the goodies for sale that were on the 5.5,full Emerald ECU and custom wiring harness ,bigger Bosch injectors and chromed fuel rail,ACT triple plenum , ACT exhausts and an oil cooler, will get round to listing in the for sale section, but still busy moving in and unpacking, fell free to ring me on 07973 504312 James.
