Hi everyone,

I've recently joined as a member but have been reading the threads for some time now - Henry's GT2 being one of the best.

However I have a problem - I've been thinking about "upgrading" my 996 for a used 997 Cs. I ring up an OPC and am told a deposit has been taken on advertised 997 (on web-site). However they may be able to source a similar vehicle. True to their word I get a call later that day and, whilst the vehicle is more than I was originally willing to spend (always the way) it sounded great. We agree a p/x on my car and a small discount on 997, as told no further movement available. I cannot help feeling though the 997 is slightly over-priced and prior to signing anything I take another look on porsche web-site and find a very similar sounding vehicle but for almost £3k less with another OPC. I ring the other OPC and find out it is the same vehicle. I was mightily miffed, especially as my experience of my local OPC over the last 18 months of 996 ownership has not been good. OPC 2 tells me to pull out of purchase from OPC 1 (which I have done) but not tell them of our conversation and buy from them at reduced price! Sharks or what - Henry come back all is forgiven!!

Question - This has all left a pretty sour taste in what should be an enjoyable experience. Any suggestions on what I should do?

if other opc will match trade in offer, then buy it there for 3k less, simple

you might find they offer you 3k less for your part ex however in which case the first bunch werent exactly sharks but perhaps trying to prevent the other post you would have come up with 'why is my 996 not worth anything to an OPC'

Tell the OPC to poke his car where the sun dont shine, save yourself at least 5-7k and buy privately coz he's guaranteed to be paying you rubbish money for your 996 as wellsoapboxIts not for me to get involved in this OPC bashing but sometimes its hard to hold back

I've had an experience with a particular OPC that sold me a 996 C4 for 50k and when i came to trade in for a 997 8 months later they tried to royaly stuff me, offering 18K less, said it was because of the depre due to the new model (they still had ones in their showroom for the same price, well actually one for 3k more but with less of a spec), I told them to stick it and looked around, eventually I found a dealer but still lost 10k, the problem for us at the end of the food chain is that it's bloody difficult to find someone with that amount of cash, so it has to be a dealer. I didn't go for the 997 as I didn't want to deal with their sales team,

We do that sort of thing all the time in our industry (not such large sums of money).

You were lucky that you smelt a rat and looked round but it only takes 1 in every 10 customers to take the deal and they have made an easy profit.

If you hadnt had known you would probably have been very happy with the deal and the car.

That's a good point Bennno about the p/ex - I'll let you know what OPC 2 come up with.

Regarding the value of the 996 Porkerborg, I had a very similar experience. Bought 996 for £48k and OPC were trying to offer me £33k 11 months later on a p/e. This particular OPC had two similar vehicles at the time on their forecourt priced at £42k. I decided not to proceed then with the purchase but that was 8 months ago.

what sort of price are you looking to pay?

I suspect that delivery may not be the issue it once was and availability may be reasonable. Lovely spec, guess it cost you circa £68-£70k.

My guesstimate on a good day you might be offered between £52,000-£57,000 by a stealer.
