I don't think this is going to be successful. You may get an initial reasonable covering but I suspect that the brown will quickly show through and it will look a mess. I say this from the experience I have had over several years of applying dark blue Renovo. Within a few weeks/months it fades and requires re-treatment - especially during the sunny months. And this is using dark blue Renovo on an already dark blue roof. Putting black on brown will probably look patchy to start, even if you use several coats (I always use a minimum of 2 coats) and will progressively get worse. I suppose it might be worth a try, but I think it would be better if it's not viable to re-cover the roof panel and the folding section to just keep the roof brown with several coats of Renovo brown.

I hope you have more luck than I did.

My rear and top sections are different due to a previous owner only replacing the rear a couple of years ago. One is black, t'other dark blue. I've tried black Renovo, blue Renovo, Thompsons and a cocktail of all three.

Can I get them to match?

New targa cover and rear sections should be about £500. But if you're going to replace if all else fails, you might as well try all else first. Think of what you wouldn't want to spill on the roof cos it'd be impossible to get off...black paint? black dye? POR15 (only joking)? As all the best instructions say, try on a small inconspicuous area first. I doubt any of the above would look like black mohair, but they might look acceptable.

Meatball, I notice you live in Devon. I have had a quote from a guy in Cornworthy (Nr Totnes) for £350 to cover the targa and replace the rear section, any colour. He is an enthusiast and would imagine him to do a great job. I am still saving to get it done. E-mail me and I will dig out his details if you are interested.
Regards, Robin.

Hi. I have or had a dark blue roof and wanted it black. I gave it a thorough clean with upholstry cleaner then when dry two coats of Renovo. It looked very good when first done but the blue has started to show through in a couple of places on the targa section. I think it is where the cover rubs on it as the car lives outside and is covered all the time when it is not been driven. The rear section still looks fine. But of course beacuse of the cover it sees little rain and UV. Hope this is of interest. Terence

Just recovered my targa cost about £100 and a few evenings work. So a bit easier than wasting time trying to recolour it...prehaps nuts

Cheers banana looks a little too fiddly for me...not much of a seamstress. Im now considering a new roof ive found a couple of people who can do the whole roof for between £350 and £400.
