A few months ago I backed up some JPG photos onto a DVD using Nero 6. However I was talking to someone on the phone at the time and must have got the settings wrong...

When I put the disc in the drive, the PC won't see it. If I Explore or do Properties, it tells me there are no Kb.

However, if I put it in the Sony HD/DVD recorder under the TV, it plays the images quite happily on the television as a slideshow!

Using Nero (Recorder > Disc info) and (Extras > View track) I can get the following screens which seems to say there are 57Mb on the disc, but I cannot figure out how to extract the images:

Is there some way to do this, either within Nero or maybe some free utility I can dowload?

Cheers all!

You might think about investing in Roxio Toast instead. Much better product.

Are you putting the DVD disc into a DVD Player/CD writer on your PC or the DVD Writer drive (if you have 2 drives in your PC).

If so it might be that the disc has not been finalised and cannot be read by the normal player. Sticking it into the DVD Writer and finalising it will allow you to see the images on any drive.

The DVD writer drive. The other one is CD only.

You might be right, but I can't get to it to finalise it! Any suggestions on this? I thought that an unfinalised disc would work on the machine it was made on, but not elsewhere - so it's odd that it works on the Sony and not the PC...

My hunch is that I burnt it as a DVD Video instead of DVD-ROM - would that explain the situation?

Both use a filesystem which windows can understand so it shouldn't make a difference, they would normally be accessable through windows explorer.

I think it looks like a case of not finalising the disc as FWD points out - you could create a dummy second session in nero, burn a small text file or some other filler file, but this time enable the "finalise session" option.

Thanks Scorp. However I'm not clear what you mean by a 'dummy' session, and if I burn a text file then I get another DVD with just a text file on it, no? I seem to be missing the plot spin Words of one syllable for this idiot please nuts

He just means burn an extra file to it as a new session. This will get added to the disk in a second session, but when you enable the finalising of the disk, it will then allow all sessions to be visible at once, effectively treating it just like adding an extra file and ignoring all the sessions.

Don't think you can do "multi-session" as it's called, with disk-at-once. Change the mode if you can from disk-at-once (or DAO as it probably is seen) to Track-At-Once.

It won't let you do disk-at-once as there is already info on the disk so you can't burn a whole disk in one go, you must use track-at-once to burn the next track.

Unfortunately that option is greyed out, which seems odd if 'multisession' and 'disk-at-once' are mutually exclusive. It's stuck on 'disk-at-once':

Strange, I would also have expected that of all things, the DVD writer that you used to burn the disk would be the most likely candidate to read it again rather than your Sony box.

Is there an option on Nero to import the existing session? If there is try that, then see if you can drag the files off to your hard drive.

Also, with the DVD in the drive, just see if you can copy the files on the DVD to your hard drive through Nero's own explorer.

Update - you're right old chum: IsoBuster is available via 'honesty box' and worked perfectly first time. Saw all the files - drag and drop to the HD - bingo.

Thanks very much! beer
