Used Snag-It extensively whilst at old job, and could do with something similar to capture selected bits of a screen, ie for importing selected google earth images into essaysand such like. Have no money for this, of course lol. Does anyone know of a freebie type thing or lite version?

Windows print-screen, then copy and paste into your favourite paint package.

Also PaintShopPro has a screen capture facility, don't know if this is still available in freebie form...

I use screenhunter www.wisdom-soft.com/products/screenhunter.htm

Not as slick as snag it but still very useful
