My Chim has taken to not wanting to start in the last week.

basically....

1) turn immobiliser off.....check
2) listen for fuel pump...check
3) turn key, but only a loudish click/clunk

Is it the starter solenoid on its way out.

if i put the car in gear and rock it, it then fires up fine.

It happens when cold and hot, so its not a hot start problem.

If it is the solenoid, where is it located?

thanks

Sounds like a sticking starter motor, rocking the car frees its mechanism.

I agree, knocking with a hammer also works (not a sledge)

The 'click' you hear is the solenoid. The solenoid is part of the starter motor assembly. You won't be able to remove it without at least putting the car on axle stands, but it's easier if you have access to a ramp. It's mounted on the offside above the clutch slave cylinder (where the engine ande gearbox mate). It's all but impossible to even see it without being under the car.
