This question is for David Yeomans. The special performance exhaust manifolds that you had made up for your Taimar. What was the name / address of the company that made them and how much where they. I'm asking because a friend of mine with a 3000M was told by his engine builder that the standard TVR manifolds would be very restrictive.

Hi Justin

I bought the system through Ric Wood (see Oily pages) but it was made for Ric Wood by Tony Law in Leeds.

I reckon that on my engine the exhaust was worth 10-15bhp, put it this way after it was fitted, my car would outaccelerate my Impreza Turbo between 30-90mph, that was good enough for me.

The only issues are that it is quite a tight fit, the engine mounts need to be replaced with steel ones, as the alloy casting fouls one of the downpipes. Ground Clearance was a bit tight afterwards, but my car was low anyway but 2.75 - 3ins made it tricky on the road.

I would suggest wherever possible that the exhaust was made 'on the car', this should iron out any major issues.

Tony Law only works with mild steel (but John Livsey has his system for 10 years and only had to repack the rear boxes in that time) and budget around £1000

I considered the 'Tony Law' route, but as I'm a tight git and don't want to spend £1000+ just for another 10bhp in a road car, I'm looking to have a set of manifolds made from larger bore pipes but to the standard TVR pattern.

I'll let you know if find someone to do it...

Do the 'S' series (forward exit) type manifolds fit? Or would they not be any better anyhow....

Is that not going to cause issues with clearance on the chassis though? How much bigger do you reckon?

Probably, but nothing that a very large crowbar and a flame-thrower can't fix

Not sure how much bigger, but at least the same size as my exhaust ports. I'll take the heads with me when I go to get a quote.

By the way, I'm back from my recent travels so I can send those bits if you still need them. Let me know.

Colin I should be able to make to make you some big bore manifolds as long as you dont want drainpipe size

Firstly the exhaust will only give benefits on a trick engine and certainly if you're triple webered then changing the exhaust may liberate even more bhp.

I think that it will be near impossible to replicate the standard manifolds in larger bore pipe as the chassis clearance will be a major issue. Anyway if you're going that route then the Tony Law bunch of bananas (in and outside of the chassis) to a common collector would be a sesible route to go.

One of the main benefits of the Tony Law system is tuned (equal) pipe lengths, these would not be replicated by either using a copy of the standard system or copying modern TVR arrangements of sweeping forward.

I put the system on because I had a set of triple webers in the garage, however I never fitted the webers as I believe the exhaust gave me the gain I was looking for without the tuning hassle (I sold the webers and the manifold before anyone asks)

Hope that helps

Bugger off, Wymeersch! A 'Tony Law' will be of no use to you when you have brake hoses that leak I'll get the hoses in the post to you this week, before the price goes up. By the way, I know of the whereabouts of a spare Trident windscreen if you want one.

Edited to add... Steve, I'm speaking to a guy who makes special 'one-off' manifolds but if he doesn't come up with the goods, I'll be in touch. Thanks.

so the TVR postman did find the hoses then?
A spare windscreen for the Trident? a TVR Trident or a plastic one. To be on the safe side I've got two already, thanks. But the rear one is also plexi. Who can make me a glass one?
Start polishing the Bimmer for Zolder! or be part of the 25th anniversary of the 3000S.

Thanks for all the information I will pass it on to my friend. Yes his car is currently running triple webers so this manifold arrangement should help.
