I'm quite sure this has been covered here loads of times, but having tried to use the search gizmo 5 times today without a single success I thought I'd go the easy way...

So - Import Celica's. Are there any potential headaches going the import route - parts wise mostly, but anything else unexpected that could jump up and bite me in the backside?

I only ask as last time I had a Celica, (a fair few years ago now!) a friend with a '88 import had some real problems. I'd be looking at either a 92ish GT4 or 98ish ST.

ST's are never imports............ I used to own an ST - if it's a non Jap import of an ST don't bother - they're cheaper here.

The other half has an import GT4, N reg, and there's no difference in parts - no matter what Toyota will bluff with 'oh no we can't work on that it's an import'. WTF - you think they made Celica's in the UK?!

There are different parts in so much as things like superstrut supsension (SSII and SSIII models) but these you can get in the UK no problems. Also the imports have better interiors etc but it's all crossover. Make sure you get the speedo converted properly to MPH and delimited as often they're limited to 112mph.

The ST and the GT4 are world's apart in driveability and cost of ownership. Both still great cars to have, easy to look after, available wealth of knowledge on them all and both will put a grin on your face.

www.GT4OC.co.uk (but it's changed its name a bit I might have it wrong..... ) for the GT4 Owners Club and experts beyond belief. Also www.celica-club.co.uk for all marques of Celica including GT4.
