Guys

Possibly a numpty question, but I need to ask it anyway I'm hiring a car in the US whilst on holiday and need to know if you still fit cigarette lighters in new vehciles. I only need it to run a 12V power supply to my CD player, otherwise it's lots of batteries time.

I'm thinking that the answer is simple it's either;
a) Of course we still do, someone recently sued Ford/GM for not fitting them, or
b) Not any more as someone recently sued Ford/GM for still fitting them thereby encouraging everyone to smoke etc.

If it makes any difference, I'll be hiring a Cavalier type thing. I have taken the precaution of preparing myself for three weeks of unsatisfying driving experince, but to hire a Corvette was a little too pricey.

Thanks in advance

Chris

Yank cars have loads of 'Power Outlets' which are co-incidentally the same size as cigarette lighter sockets.

Yeah - my (bought in the USA) 1998 New Beetle had 2 12V outlets (but no ashtray or lighter). Not that smokers use ashtrays in my experience - windows seem to be favoured.

Chris...

For most rental vehicles - if there is not an ashtray/lighter combination, there will usually be a power outlet in it's place...
