Randlemarcus: For my money, this means the OPC warranty is essential.
On a wider point, this cannot be good for residuals - not for owners and surely not for the manufacturer. My preference is to buy new and keep for ten years, and as such I'd expect better reliability over five years. Is this unreasonable??

I also think you will find the data a little skewed because of the Warranty Direct angle. They clearly got bitten by the costs of individual repairs when it came to Porsche cars with the result that they no longer offer cover for Porkers. I guess they under-assessed the risk and got done over by people, who want their cars (porsches) to be perfect, claiming everything that they could
. If porsches and boxsters were as unreliable as they say they are, Porsche GB would be charging a lot more for their warranties than they do.
All cars go wrong sometimes and we have to realise that repair costs are related to the initial cost of the car.
I don't think we should be calling the boxster a liability on the basis of Warranty Directs bad experience.

Personal opinion is that when I can run a Porsche that Porsche will warranty, the warranty will be bought. Things that were expensive when new dont become cheaper unless they are second hand, and while I'm happy to put recon parts into the 944 when the OPC part is taking the piss, I can understand why a galvanised steel wing might have cost £900 to store since 1989 in a warehouse somewhere is Stuttgart...
Also, I suspect that the other poster about the Porsche repair costs being higher than e.g. the Nissan costs has bitten WD on the bottom. Dont forget that for a lot of people, the car will be new to them, so maintenance may or may not be known.
If you buy your car from new, and have it serviced to Porsche standards, I'll warrant the damn thing myself out to five years...
