Best tyres for 996TT?
Discussion
Hi. First post on here.Been looking at the site for a while now and have to say some of the threads have had me in bits.
Anyway I am after advice on tyres ( a subject that has no doubt been covered countless times ). I used to run a 996 C2 on Rosso's which were ok apart from the rears lasting no more than 5k miles. I have now got a 996tt which is on Michelin Pilots. In peoples experience what are the best tyres for a tt? The car is a daily driver will be used throughout winter and very ocassionaly tracked.
Thanks in advance

to be fair my first set lasted 4k miles/one month.
I needed to get a feel for how the car handle since it was my first car, so took it to a large empty industrial estate and spent a day edging the rear out, becuase I was a bit wary of all that rubbish you hear about rear engined rear wheel drive being crap handling.
turned out a wasted excerise really becuase it handles fantastic!
the miles have piled on as its my rep mobile, so 95% of that 30k miles is motorways. . . . .

Sorted.
Welcome to the madhouse.
In answer to your query, I've stayed with Pirelli Assimetrico N3s, as were fitted when I bought the car. Tend to get between 6 and 8k miles out of rear tyres and 14k out of fronts, mainly high speed road stuff.

For what its worth my 996C4S came with Michelin Sport Pilots (same size as TT) and were down to 3mm on the back after 10,500 miles with the fronts about half worn. Judging by the fuel consumption on the computer the previous owner was a very steady driver....
I finished off the rears off in 2500 miles (summer slicks rapidly changed to new ones at the first sign of rain and falling leaves!) but the fronts still have plenty left. Now obviously the C4S does not have the tyre ripping torque of a TT, but it does show that you can get plenty out of these tyres is you are just a bit moderate.

Alright Dave...I have the same question...! hence my post before i read yr thread (Dime bar i know)..alas yr 996 TT is 4 wheel drive? What do you think of the michelins?
Hard to tell at the moment. The car has immense grip in both dry and wet conditions. It is early days for me with this one so can't really comment.

4.5K out of the last pair of Rossos on the rear of mine. (and I don't consider myself to be hard on tyres.............)
