How on earth can i reduce the amount of spam emails i get. I have a business email address which i am very carefull using, but i still get at least 30 spam emails per day. I have used the "this is spam" function on outlook but its driving me mad. Went away for a week and had 400+ spam emails in my inbox on my return.

I get a shed load on my company email account too, but as it currently runs through gmail then it seems to filter the majority out. I still get about half a dozen a day that sneak through though.
I'm hoping once my domain is pointed and ported through a new server then more of it will stop. :fingerscrossedsmiley:
And like you, I haven't been surfing where I shouldn't either. But it doesn't seem to stop it from happening, for some reason.
I think some of it comes from being on other people's mailing lists that have been, or are part of a marketing list etc?
Have you signed up for anything through the business or registered any products recently? That might have inadvertantly signed you up.

Does anyone, anywhere that is a company know what your e-mail address is?
Often companies sell their contacts list to 3rd parties as another source of income.
Do you have a website? Does this website have the e-mail address on it?
Also if it's some fairly simple like "1234@noblecarpets.com" then it's pretty easy for the spammers to just randomly get lucky.

There has been a substantial increase in spam over the past month or two, various evidence says it's up 30%.
Two suggestions:
- Get whoever does your email to use reverse DNS blacklisting. The Spamhaus SBL+XBL list at a minimum. If it can't be done then move the email service to somebody who can.
- If it's a your own business and you control the domain then use Google Apps. Essentially it lets you use GMail but with your own domain name.

Thanks Gareth, I'll look into these.
I have three sets of emails, office, lap top and remote AOL and as a result, I am currently getting around 1500
spam emails a day.
It all kicked off about a month back as you say, before it was manageable, but now, I dread being away even for
a day like today where I fly out and back, I spend an hour having to sift through them all.

I read recently that over 90% of all email is now spam.
And that the majority of this spam comes from relatively few sources.
Surely it is not beyond the realms of the technology to shut them down? As usual, it is the few spoiling things for the many. It astonishes me that there is anyone left on the planet who actually responds to any of it.
I too have noticed an recent increase again - especially in "stock tips". I mean, FFS.

Yep, they are the ones we are now getting. Fantastic. If I was going to buy more shares I would absolutely use an unsolicited e-mail for my tips...........The sad part is, people MUST actually reply to these things or they wouldn't bother sending them.
But we only get about 5-10 spam mails a day, on the account listed on a website.

I've started getting these too and no-one apart from friends and family has the email address they're gong to.
Yep i'm getting the stocks spam - i've been wondering if it's anything to do with the PH share dabbling club that I showed an interest in on the gassing forum?

Unlikely. The stock tips spams are very much "doing the rounds" at the moment. I'm getting hundreds of them and I've never even read the thread you're referring to.
Are there any good "corporate" (I hate that word) solutions for multiple business accounts. We drag our email down from our hosts server then distribute internally, but the internals spam solution requires us to buy their newest version of the mail handler which is a bit of a rip off - now why am I not surprised by that?
I just need something that will grab the mail from out mail host, wash out the spam and then deliver it to our internal distribution system

I'm feeling a bit left out as I don't get any spam at all!
I keep thinking I should sort out preventative measures so when I get hit it doesn't cripple me but you know how it is...
My email is with NTL and I believe they filter for spam automatically. If that's the reason why I get none then I'm seriously impressed.

he... hehehe... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! NTL... Spam filtering system... Ohh that's a good one.
NTL's spam solution is to give you a nice little check box. I don't belive they actually have anything to spam check your mail... just the check box on the webmail options page.
