MR2 MK2 big ends

[ELAN+2]

are the big ends on these weak? my mate has just bought one and they have started knocking after a couple of weeks, its only done 80K miles.

any one any experience of these?

not an exsoert by anymeans but i always thought these where really strong engines!!

i have seen them make 700bhp (in an MR2) so think there might have been a problemwith your mates. buti really dont know!

Heard of a few failures myself...not quite sure of the cause.

Could be many things, but unless you know the cars entire history, they are only speculating.

I think that in many cases people don't change the oil enough and it just shortens engine life. Realisticaly, most oil will last 5000 miles in a well thrashed car.

i have allways thought 5000miles for a N/A motor and 3000-3500 for a turbo motor!

the turbo really puts alot of strain on the oil. even with synthetics. so if your thrashing the nots off it to its only going to make it worse!!
