Did anyone else see the enormous Police presence at the Dartford crossing northbound this morning? They'd set up three/four scameras on the Bridge just after junction 2 where the limit drops to 60 (IIRC) and they had 8-10 cars and a couple of portacabins set up in the area just before the tolls where the fuel tankers wait.

It looks like they are using it as an easy way to stop people after they have been caught, as I saw something similar southbound about 3 weeks back.

Looks like the cameras need to be linked to the white van they had parked next to it both times....beware vans on bridges!

By the description you give, this sounds like an ANPR operation. Catching those without tax and insurance etc....

It is ANPR I think you'll find.. Dartford crossing is used a hell of a lot by those in stolen vehicles and doing other naughty things.

I agree. The geograpic location, and the fact that you have to drive quite a way around to avoid the crossing it would mean that crims may not think to avoid it.

Excellent News, had me a bit concerned as I drive through there every day, and rarely does anyone slow to 60...

Went through at around eight this morning, and saw the scameratsi van and three camera tripods, and on approaching the tunnel noticed the 3 "5 series touring waggons "...........quite ironic as it took an hour and a half to do the same distance yesterday due to the numpty in the HGV knocking all the tiles off the ceiling in one of the tubes.....

Tax dodgers ........well fair enough....unleash the PAnzers !
