In the last three weeks, I have test driven the following:
- 993 C4 (2 different ones)
- 993 C2S
- 996 3.4, 2 different ones
- and a new demo Boxster S

On all my test drives I turn off the heater/AC and close the windows. As soon as I put first gear and the car advances, if there is a slight denivelation in the ground, the ceiling of both 996's crack, as if the roof garniture is being pressured by the roof being bent, so to speak of course!

The 993's don't do that.

I am disappointed by this. The 996 feels less stiff. Is this even possible?
I don't mean the mass production feel of the new cars compared to the old, this is clear by the dashboard material. I only mean chassis stiffness.

996 owners, don't be offended, I am just asking. The 996, I think, can produce speed more easily.

The 996 is stiffer and lighter than the 993 it replaced. The creaking I suspect you hear is the windscreen. This can be easily solved by the retailer you are buying from or the OPC for a fee.

The sound comes from the back, not front.

In that case, I am at a loss what that could be. Sorry.

Some 993s definitely did do this when there was a torsional load on the chassis.
There was an issue with how the windscreen fit, which allowed it to shift around a bit.
This in turn created problems with corrosion at the bottom of the A-pillars.

Strange post. Well my 996 definitely doesnt do this, nor does the interior shout "mass production" IMHO, that said i think the interior of the MY02 996 was slightly upgraded on the previous model - so maybe this is the reason.

Don't think my 3.4 996 does this either.

Some of the trim squeaks over severe bumps, but you wouldn't notice it otherwise.

Thats probably also a good point. Didnt realise he is Austrian (which speaks volumes for how good his English is really). I still think francisb's response was razor sharp though !.

lol francisb, not a perfect wording I admit

I forgot the words that describe rattles and the cockpit noises of chassis torsion because I didn't expect to need them for Porsches
So you got the French versions

But while you all were having a blast silly, I actually remembered an additional fact: both 996's had around 100,000Km (as well as the 993's). Do the 996's you are talking about it have less mileage?

Kay, who's actually not Austrian
