My new Boxster with leather (non-sports) seats has now done 4000 miles - mainly consisting of 30mile trips. The drivers seat is beginning to show signs of wear. This consists of 'stretched' leather on the base of the seat where my bottom rests (slightly embarrassing) - I'm a bit disappointed by this.

Admittedly I'm not a 'small' person, but am not massive either (15stone).

Is this what is to be expected or should I complain? Have others had a similar experience?

does it have the "ruffled leather" option ? - when i read the buyers guide for the 996 I do remember comments about this being more susceptible to wear, and sagging etc. Could be options for recourse if its a known issue i guess.

Mine has done exactly the same. 4000 miles on the clock and the base of the driver's seat looks like that of a 15 year old Merc taxi. I was going to get the OPC to look at it next time I'm passing.
Hope that's a bit more helpful than other relpies rolleyes

Mine always look good even with 45-50k I use the Porsche leathercare stuff alcohol based cleaner then sort of leather moisturiser stuff brings out most of the wrinkles and cleans out the croisant crumbs and cappachino foam

I got my seats back to tip-top condition by treating them with Liquid Leather. This stuff is awesome - they do a cleaner and a conditioner which brings the leather up perfectly if there are no cracks or scuffs - then they do leather dye which is colour matched.

So my recommendation - buy some cleaner and conditioner. It will tighten the leather on the areas its a bit worn and with a bit of effort make em look like new.

Btw if you have scuffs - this stuff really does make them vanish, though you have to be careful to get the right colour match through dilution with water.

The reality is that you are as well having the standard Porsche equipment as the leather shows wear faster, particularly the ruffled leather. Its just the price of vanity....

Thanks for the helpful replies.

Where do you buy Liquid Leather - is it available in Halfords or do I need to order it online?

Also does it make the leather shiny or matt (I like the current Matt finish)?

I don't think you'll get this in Halfords - not mainstream enough.

I ordered here - www.liquidleather.com/

Their websites rubbish but I found their product isn't.

The cleaner and conditioner are designed to restore your leather, so sharpened up the colour in the seats but doesn't give them a gloss. The Scuff Repair is a paint. None of the products result in a gloss coat if you follow the simple application rules (ie you don't need much to get a result), more a clean satin look consistent with when the leather was new.
