when i brake from high speed i get a fast hard judder through the steering wheel , tried all the usual things, balanced the tyres , they are new Toyo's, checked the brake shoes , new 1000 miles ago , the fault came quite quickly one day not there next day its bad. the car still brakes in a stright line which leads me to think its not a sticking caliper .
any ideas greatly appreciated
Simon

Ive got the same problem. I dont feel it through the steering but the brake pedal instead, maybe its not as bad as yours?
If the discs were warped wouldnt it occur under every stop from speed?

....how much is a brake overhaul all round nowadays then?

Could also be cracked discs or any loose braking component.

Warped discs is likely. Our Chimaera recently had to have new ones...exactly the symptoms you describe.

It could be worn wishbone bushes, which move slighty under braking, if the discs were warped you would have a lifting sensation (vibrating)in the brake pedal.

if you do need new brake discs try www.motorsport.co.uk they were very helpful when i changed mine. £120 a pair for the fronts(escort turbo 2) and £150 a pair for the rears(sierra 2.0 cosworth 4*4) the best thing to do is to whip the wheel off and check with a tape measure before giving them a call as i have been told they can be different on other griffs.

Can't see why TVR don't recommend ford discs for the Griffith or Chimaera as the complete braking system including the brake servo, calipers, brake pads and discs are ford, with ford stamped all over them.
Strange next thing they will dismiss the engine is Rover.

Pads not properly bedded in, or picking up on the discs, is more likely. But it *could* be warped discs if they've been severely overheated recently?

Several reasons including law suits allegedly etc. Some of the Ford replacement pattern parts are simply not upto the job. They may be cheap but seriously reduce the braking performance and there is a lot of variation with some of the Ford bits simply not fitting. It is caused by the combination of upright and calliper which again are all matched. I suspect that TVR machine the discs so that they know they will fit to any car. The differences are about 1 mm but it is enough to potentially cause problems.

I'll probbaly have it on my tomb stone but measure and check.

One other thing it could be (it happened to me so I know it's a possible) is a worn steering rack. Mine gave violent steering wheel shake under breaking when it went.

I later got warped disks which showed up more on the pedal than through the wheel.

If you new disks haven't fixed the problem get your rack checked.

Thanks for all your replies , I have fitted the new discs and a new set of disc pads and the problem has gone away , I did indeed have a 25 thou warp on the near side disc and one cracked disc pad on either wheel , strange , they were fairly new , and I dont use the car on track days!
the braking is now spot on better than new I suspect with no fade whatsoever.
again thanks for the replies
