All turbo bodied, a few pre producton cars made for Porsche dignitaries/special customers then 100 cars made '93/'94....not 100% sure of breakdown but understand roughly,55 RSR race cars and 45 RS road cars of which 6 or 7 were clubsports.
I think Thomas S has one for sale at www.germansportscars.de
Occasionaly converted 964 copies come up at 1/2 the price of the real thing.

That 964 3.8RS looks lush, are they really that much money ???????
Is that the same 3.8 as in the 993RS ????, how would it compare to a 993 RS power/handling etc...?
G.
I got a lift around Spa recently in an original 964 3.8 RS by a guy who used to do races like the 24 hours of Daytona. It is quick (and beautiful), but no match for a good GT3, mainly but not solely because it is underpowered. That guy is a better driver than me and I was faster when we were on the track together
As mentioned previously, the 3.8 RS is very rare. The engine used six individual throttle bodies and was not used in any other car prior to the lanch of the 3.8.
I toyed with the idea of buying this replica from Autofarm ..............unfortunately it had "a history"
It was stunning nontheless

Look at Google Video RSR 3.48 Spa. 375bhp
http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?d
Only a well driven 996 Cup gets near it!
Also Red RHD car in Scotland which come to the track now and again

Paul,
RS Tuning can ring a few more HP out of the RSR. They were always restricted when racing as they would whip the competition without it. The 5 speed box and the gearing is the only thing that holds it back. You can be over 7250rmp maxed out in 5th on the Kemel. I guess they changed the ratios to suit each track. The 305 slicks glue you to the track so through Pouhon you can just floor it.
It is the most wonderful car to drive. The ultimate incarnation of the 911!
The 3.8 RS Thomas has is quoted well above standard hp.
Due to being much lighter(~1150kg) than a GT3 the engine would only need slightly higher hp than standard to really worry the GT3 brigade.

a "964 3.8 RS" is not a Cup car like a "(road legalised) 964 RS Cup". The equivalent of the racing car which is the 964 3.6 RS Cup, even if it has become road legal, is the 964 3.8 RSR. A normal standard 964 3.8 RS is a homologation special but still a road car with a mere 300 hp. It is beautiful but underpowered. Of course a 964 3.6 Cup is nearly as fast as a GT3 : even if it is road legal it still is a race car which a non-Cup GT3 is not. As I said before, I have been on the track at Spa with a standard 964 3.8 RS driven by a better driver than me and my car was faster and I wasn't on drugs that day. Of course if adding a good 75 hp to a standard 964 3.8 RS makes it faster, but what about a standard GT3 with an extra 75 hp, i.e. 450 hp ? I'm afraid, comparing a 964 3.8 RSR with a road GT3 is comparing apples with oranges. Of course it is faster

The 3.8 RS was very much de-tuned. The 3.8 RSR had different air restrictors to reflect the mess of regulations that existed back then for different GT championships before Barth et al. took over. Consequently, the 3.8 RSR is quoted with varying engine performance and acceleration in different books. I am lucky to have a non-restricted engine with 370+bhp and to be able to compare it to variants of the 964s, 993s and GT3s at trackdays.
The 3.8 RSR is simply the best incarnation of the old-school '964 RS spirit' (I had two of these before and would revert to a 964 RS if I were to sell the RSR. GT3s and 993s do not do it for me).
