Ok, let me attempt to explain:

I have not had much experience of driving lots of different cars. When I got my manual 997S earlier this year, it was from having owned a Golf, not from having progressed up gradually eg: Lancia Integarale to Ford Focus ST to Porsche Boxster etc.

I did not even test drive any other car before getting it except for a manual X50. So no experinece with DB9, M3 etc.

What that has meant for me, is that I wonder if I appreciate the 997S to the full extent of its finer points that I should. Although I enjoy it all: engine noise, steering response, road-holiding, acceleration, what should I be looking out for the next time I am driving it, to really appreciate how accomplished it is?

What is lacking in the ownership of its rivals that I am now enjoying?

well, for the most part, it will start and stop when you want it to, and thats not always a given with those lesser brands. y'know, the ones you see with *those* people in.

this is a joke, yes? you should love it cos its great, and that youre very lucky. if you seriously crave contrast then go out and buy an absolute shitbox and drive that for two weeks. driving my landy always makes me appreciate my '3 a lot more.

Two things to start with:
- Pay attention to the see-saw effect from the heavy back-end when accelerating and breaking. Using this effectively during spirited driving makes the 991 so much fun
- Go full throttle after turn-in and enjoy the massive grip you get
enjoy

Go to a novice friendly track and get pay for some instruction. I am sure this will help you appreciate the abilities of the car and you.
