I am after a cheapish daily runaround - 10 miles return commute daily.
I`m tempted by a 205 GTI which is track biased.
I will be doing 5-10 trackdays per year.

I`m looking at this www.pistonheads.com/sales/110408.htm

Not sure if I should wait for a proper 1.9 GTI and something even more hardcore - cage / bucket seats etc.

Any views / tips ?

Well I bought it.

First 205 GTI - feels so alive like it is on it`s tiptoes.

Not got lots of top end urge but the 1.9 engine matched with 1.6 box and lovely quickshift helps keep it in the powerband.

Having it checked over - then will get some decent tyres and probably 1.9 alloys and I`ll be ready for the track.

Great fun.

Nice one

Got my first one a couple of months ago and it's so much fun. When i can afford a second car after uni has finnished i want to track my 205 too. Thinking about getting a quickshift linkage too, any good?

Quickshift seems really good.

Quite short but definate "snick" into gear - feels good.

To be fair I have never driven the standard which may be very good and there may not be a huge difference - I expect others here will have experience of both.

Having the car checked by AB Motorsport next week before I venture on track with it. If it`s not a total lemon then I`ll look at some further upgrades.

Cheers

I did this. Was easy to justify to the Wife as a small, cheap, practical hatchback which I could use for work and play. The only problem I've had is my argument is so strong, she is now wandering what the XJR is for!!!

She'll work it out in the winter when it's minus 10 outside and the Pug has ice on th einside of th ewindscreen and the Jag has aircon.
