Yeah, great fun isn't it?

Three weeks down and I'm getting more and more comfortable commuting on my bike. Right enough, I'm also getting more confident with my filtering and journey times are tumbling so that may all be linked.

Don't get put off by the crap weather and roads we have at the mo: just get better kit!

Be aware of the possibilty of people moving within their lane to see what's going on ahead, or being trapped betwen two buses, etc. When filtering down the outside of a lane of stationary traffic, watch-out for cars attempting to do a U-turn without looking. You'd be surprised how ignorant a lot of people are regarding their peripheral vision.

PS enjoy the weekend on the bike!

Cover both brakes and be prepared to stop when filtering on urban roads. Keep an eye on the pavement. Pedestrians assume if the traffic is stationary they can cross the road without looking, usually always right in front of you from behind a bus or similarly large vehicle. If you lose sight of a pedestrian behind a large vehicle then assume they're about to walk straight out in front of you.

Also, look out for parents dropping their kids off near schools. Round my way that's done from the outside lane, with car doors swinging into your path as you carefully filter along. rolleyes It hurts if they hit you. Trust me.

My other top tip is this - if you are filtering through a queue of stationary or very slow moving traffic, and there is a gap, the gap is there for a reason. Usually somebody has waved in somebody else from a side road, and they will inevitably drive straight across as many lanes as they can without looking.

Also - if you are filtering over a pedestrian crossing, or anywhere where there are pedestrians, they do not think that there might be anything moving between the traffic.
