Bush giving Iraq 48hrs to move out before war strikes start. The UN been ordered out. There is going to be more mass destruction throughout the world because of this? Start building your dugouts people !!!

I don't know how you can say that Kiwis want peace. You can't have asked them. After all, most of them aren't even in New Zealand at the moment.

Yes true, impossible to speak to everyone and am sure some people here are for it too. But the many people I have spoken to also suggest it will not fix things, but only make terroists more angry.

"only make terroists more angry"

So we oppose war because we don't want to upset terrorists?

My Solution?
A reality check for those wearing the rose tinted glasses.
Introduction of little understood notion of ethics into the capitalist system.
Recognition of the fact that once we have travelled too far down the wrong road then there will be pain when trying to get back on the right one again.
Meanwhile, I'm of to buy a generator.

I thought kiwis lived in dugouts already!

Also - there has not yet been any formal "Declaration of War". Given the normal practice these days, there probably won't be either. No war was ever declared officially for Vietnam, the Falklands, the Gulf War etc etc.

No, no declaration of war, just a lifting of the cease fire, as Iraq has not conformed to the conditions laid down in the original cease fire agreement!

I thought a kiwi was a small flightless bird that lived in a burrow. Or has David Attenborough been telling porkies all these years?

Kylie,... as far as I am aware, there is no european support, no UN support and little UK public support for this action. We are having as vote in the house of commons today. I would be suprised if there was support there too.

I think it is a f*****g disgrace.

elanturbo.....Yeah, one of my workmates is from Iraq and still has most of his family at home. This guy is a well respected chemist which we share jokes and consider him as a good mate. I even tell him to fire a few scuds at his boss when he is struggling with his workload. The kind of fun relationship we have. Its these people who get stuck in the middle of it all I feel sorry for.

I reckon Claire Short is a woman of integrity.
We dont know what went on in the cabinet meeting but I think she will take a stand when she thinks the line has been crossed.

I am a little suprised nevertheless.

Hi,

I wonder if in fact her bluff had been called. Power is a very intoxicating drug, which few are predisposed to simply surrender.

Had she in fact resigned, chances are she would have faded into obscurity in a couple weeks or months. That realization may have caused her to alter her integrity just a bit. Jim'85TE

Jeez ET - you and I are diametrically opposed on just about everything! I can virtually guess what you're going to say before I've read the post.

If I'd been asked the same question, I'd have said:

Claire Short is without a shred of integrity. She publicly stabs the guy in the back, threatens to resign, then when she realises her gesture is futile and obscurity looms slinks back into line.

I'm surprised too, I must admit, because even though I thought she usually talked bollocks I respected her as a resolute person with sincerely held beliefs. I question that belief now.

You have to remember that Claire Short is also the woman who publicly mourned the fact that she had never conceived a child.
Shortly later it was revealed that not only had she conceived, she had actually given birth to a bouncing baby boy.
She gave the baby up for adoption. Aaahhh, I hear you say, a young single mum struggled with her situation and sacrificed her relationship with the baby so she could give it the best start in life? Nope! She was married at the time. Gave the kid up cos it didn't fit with her lifestyle or career aspirations.

Woman of integrity and conscience? My arse! Oportunistic, self centred, opinionated, hypocritical bleeding heart, wringing hands, simplistic backstabber in my opinion!

Can't understand why he took her back......unless he has something particularly nasty setaide for her.......like posting her in post apocalypse Iraq, after all the people of Iraq were her motivation.
As for a sad day? no way, at least a light of some kind is glimmering dimly through the sand storm for the people of Iraq
