New Griff owner here, so this may seem kinda obvious, but is it easy/possible to remove the entire roof rather than just the targa and fold the back down.

I see on ebay some stainless steel replacement bolts and spacers for holding the foldy bit to the car, is this cos the steel ones will now be welded to the car ?

You can remove the rear section. It is fixed with a few bolts around the rear and one at each pivot point. You will also have to remove the connector for the lamp. This is located behind the carpet flap to the side of passenger seat.

Unless it is to repair the roof section, Can’t think why you would want to do it however, it will leave a tatty, untrimmed bit of fibreglass and look quite odd. Have seen a stripped out Griff in racing trim used like that.

Seen a picture of a road car (on here) that had it taken off.

I thought it would look OK but in all honestly, it wasn't very flattering. At all.

when I had the rear of my car resprayed/repaired they could not get the bolts holding the roof on to budge ,,,,,, so could be a ball ache of a job FWIW

The stainless steel bolts are specifically intended to stop the roof pivot bolts becomming siezed into the car. The mild steel spacers that you can't see between the roof hoop and the car body become very rusty and will by now be starting to fuse together. Once the whole lot becomes one it will make it extremely difficult to get the roof off if it needs to be repaired as, Hoover discovered.

They will also stop rust stains running down the carpet, yuck! And they are polished to a high shine so that they look good.

I took the rear section off my 500 in the summer to get a new window put in. banghead It was one of the most frustrating jobs I have ever done!! The nuts on the four bolts at the back that go through to the boot are a pain in the butt to get at. To get the nuts back on I had to silicon them into a ring spanner and two of us, one in the car one in the boot fiddled around for hours. Not a job I would recommend unless it is absolutely necissary. IMHO the car looks very untidy and most odd with the rear section removed completly.

Hardly a big decision is it? - they only cost 10 - 12 pounds!

i think the decision was more based around - if they are seized then why take on the battle if i don't actually have a need to remove them yet. Its in my nature to sort things before they are an issue, and i don't want rust marks down the carpet, so i'll take a screwdriver to them and see if they move.

You'll need an allen key not a screwdriver.
