Hi all,
Can anyone guide me in the direction of suppliers of protective window film both on the web and local (Cambridgeshire), the stuff that stops the window shattering?
I have done a search on PH and the web but came up blank.

Thanks in advance.

Supaglass did ours. Good job, but V expensive. If you do get it done, let your insurers know and haggle for a discount.

There must be a DIY kit around?

Demon Tweaks sell the stuff, no doubt you will find it cheaper elsewhere if you look around.

Only need to look at the Nova boys to see the potential probs. of the DIY route though. We haven't had any peels, bubbles, misting or significant scratches on the film in 3 years since its installation.

I thought about this, but from what I've heard if they can't smash the window and they want to get in, they'll bust the lock which is more expensive to repair.

True, but its more for carjaking and accidents, as they are supposed to add strength to the body shell. They are easy to push out by the occupant but I still think if you had an accident the emergency services will have a nightmare getting in?

i think you can push it out from the inside, and you still get in from the outside, as has been said it's more for smash and grab/car jacking stuff. I'm sure the emergency services could get through it.

it's more peace of mind though

Got a reply;

Thanks for your note, the retail price on a Sunny GTIR would be ?400 + Vat = 470, but and I'm guessing here, we can give you a discount of 25% if you're a member of the owners club so that would work out at ?300 + Vat = ?352.50.

Any questions give us a call?

So then, this protective window stuff is strong eh?

When Mr Scrotum lobs a brick at your window will it bounce back and hit the t**t in the face?!

I do hope so

The stuff they put on car windows will withstand a brick thrown at it. I believe it will also withstand repeated hammer blows.

I suppose then the scrote gets tired you can always get out and hit him with the brick.

And if that dont work a few repeated blows with a stoplok does the trick I find

Disclaimer: I dont condone this behaviour

The filmed glass will withstand multiple impacts from a blunt object (as the person who tried to break into the M5 in Nottingham discovered) but will be penetrated by a sharp object if already shattered. It proved itself sufficiently strong to prevent a scaffolding boss ( < if that's the right term) penetrating the windscreen when it fell off a lorry in front of one of our cars at 70+. This left a crazed area of windscreen approx 6" in diameter.
The emergency services (and anyone else) can punch through already shattered glass with a screwdriver and pull it out of the frame. It can also be pushed out from the inside in the event of an accident. I would contend that the glass failing to break on the first few impacts would deter most casual car thieves and that the film provides a safety advantage.

Not sure if they're still going, but a few years back I got some for DIY application from Bonwyke Ltd, Bonwyke House, 41-43 Redlands Lane, Fareham, Hants, PO14 1HL, tel 01329 289621.

They did both the clear security stuff and a range of tints and metallics and their service was excellent.

Didn't think they did the windscreen as its already laminated glass.
