Warwickshire Police have kindly written to my wife re an offence. It was late at night on a very wide road with nothing to indicate it was a 30. Anyways - I thought the rule was 10% +2 ? Is this not applied anymore (or does that mean up to and incl 34 is ok) ?

The letter they sent is lovely - suggesting prosecution is most likely and possibly might just be fine and points.

First time in 19 yrs to get a speeder ! Thanks gov !

10% +2 means they start sending out letters at that upper limit.

So that would be 35 in a 30.

This is of course only a guideline, and in theory they could do you for 31 in a 30.

I believe it is best to do 49 in a 30 to get most benefit from your 3 points and £60

If a 'normal' road / not a motorway then nothing to indicate 30 would actually mean 30 .....

A friend of mine's wife got a ticket from Surrey for 35 - he queried it thinking they went by ACPO guidelines and only prosecuted people for over 35. Their reply was that she was actually doing over 35 - they said they had kindly rounded it down from 35.015 !

This sort of action really does take the piss out of speed enforcement. They set these traps around here on some nights to supposedly catch the boy racers doing 55 through the 30, but anybody driving at a sensible 35 gets the fall out. Punishing safe driving like this is what turns the whole situation into a joke at the expense of good bib.
