Final Draft of petition
Discussion
Ok,
As previously mentioned, Mrs Joan Humble MP (the factory is sited in her constituency) has very kindly offered to personally deliver the petition to the House of Commons, and has provided us with some suggested words. In order for her to do this, the petition must be presented in a set format.
I have below attempted to incorporate her words, and those that have been dscussed on the other thread (Many thanks to hut49, GJR and GreenV8S for some good debate and discussion) into the required format.
We still intend to deliver the petition on Sunday 26th, but in the event of a problme in doing this, we have a fall back plan through Mrs Humble.
Unless i have any feedback from you on the wording (i do encourage your input please)I will post the petition as shown below on a web site this evening, and post a link on here.
To the House of Commons
The Petition of TVR car owners, car enthusiasts and employees of the company and their families.
Declares that the loss of the manufacture of TVR cars in Blackpool is not only detrimental to the economy and people of the town, but will further erode both this Country's manufacturing base and the reputation for innovative design and engineering enterprise that specialist car companies such as TVR have established over the past sixty years.
The petitioners therefore request that the Prime Minister asks the Department of Trade and Industry to :
(i) Investigate all options that are available to keep the manufacture of TVR cars in Blackpool
(ii) Provide whatever help and guidance may be appropriate from the Secretary of State's good offices to TVR management during the ongoing Consultation Period.
(iii) Begin legislation that prevents foreign and UK parties from buying British interests and taking them out of the UK this causing mass unemployment, loss of skills and heritage.
(iv) Help, assistance and understanding for the 260 TVR staff from their Local Government as they look for new employment.
And the petitioners remain etc
Cheers,
David

Does the required format include the full stop at the end of the first sentence and the following sentence starting with "Declares" in eome arcane legalese? If not, it ought to be all one sentence.
As to the aims in the petition, there is no chance at all of (iii) happening, so is there any point including it? I hate to say it but I'd have to think carefully about whether I could sign it with that clause in.
Good work all, though.

Totally agree. Apart from anything else EU competition law renders it pointless? I would drop it.

Thanks Cheeky.
I understand your point on the grammar, and agree, but that is exactly as directed by Joan Humble MP.
re point (iii), what about replacing prevent with discourage?
I think (iii) is a non-starter. Legislation can't "discourage" and I'm sure that the Government would not be able to apply restrictive measures on foreign ownership of UK companies. Let's not go down that path. Apart from a missing "Provide" at the start of point (iv) I think this is ready to be served.

Cheers Nick, im posting it shortly with (iii) removed, and "Provide" included.
There, done!
