Newbie Window problems

Hi,

I'm new to the forum, just wanted some advice on my passenger side window. It started dropping alot further than normal when opening the door, then after a while it stopped working, then it started working for a day, now it wont work at all when opening the door, or from the window switches. any suggestions welcome. it's a 99 4.5

Dropping futher than normal is possibly the microswitch at the front of the door. It signals the control box that the window is open enough for it to clear the A post.

Usual cause is corrosion in the plug and socket that connects it to the harness.

However, the other problems suggest it might be the control box itself.
Its in the boot on top of the fuel tank.

Disconnecting it and leaving it for a few minutes before reconnecting often clears any faults.
BUT MAKE SURE you take a note of which plug goes where. IIRC you can get em the wrong way around on that box.

If that doesn't help then its a door card removal job. Disconnect the connectors - clean with a small stiff brush and contact cleaner, wd40 or the like

You could try a chinese reset and unplug the window control units in the boot for 10 minutes. Then plug back in.

Also take door card off and check all the electrical contact blocks/points for the windows. You'll see them in the door. Clean if corroded.

Whilst the door card is off, check the window runner guides. If there is no felt left (just rubber) on the insides, replace them. Its not a hard job.
I did both of mine and now they're perfect.

Would this explain why my driver side window rattles at 100mph+? Any info on getting the door cards off would be good, my passenger door button doesnt work. GF's getting cheesed off at having to put the window down to let herself out

The door cards are held on with a a row of allen headed bolts it is the entire door side the middle doesn't lift out, don't forget the ones on the door underside and on the front as you open the door

Could be, but could also be that your window isn't raising high enough to make a tight snug fit in the roof rubber. It's easy enough to adjust the window glass inside the door panel,just take the door card off and all will become apparent.
From memory there's two screws on the top (hinge end),three on the bottom and two on the side above and below latch (these two are shorter than the others - keep them separate)
Put a piece of old carpet or like on the floor 'cos the door card is a big awkward thing and once free you'll need to rest it on something while you dig around inside the door and fish out the loom and connector which you need to unplug to take the door card away.
Give all connections a good clean and WD40ing and the door switch will probably come back to life.
