I am just doing a little winter tinkering / servicing and was considering using that Molyslip additive stuff in my Tremec gearbox, but I don`t know if it is any good or just a gimmick .Have you tried it and if so was it money down the drain (or disposed of in an enviromentally friendly way !)?

General consensus of opinion is that the only worthwhile additive packages are the ones designed into a decent quality oil.
These additive systems can be designed to be synergistic and also wont suffer from the possible compatibility issues that a separate package would bring.

Molyslip is less problematic than some of the snake oils but I would rather spend my hard earned on a better quality of oil and sell the surplus tin on Ebay or send it to the big recycling site in the sky.

Thanks for that ,what you have said has prety much echoed my thoughts ,mainly compatability and also if it is so good why does a company not integrate the technology into a "standard" oil.I wont waste my wonga.

Molyslip is fine as a grease, but if you added it to a gearbox wouldn't it censored up the synchros?

Oil companies spend a fortune developing oils with maximum protection through a range of engine speeds and temperatures. They employ chemists, engineers etc to test these things to the limit.

There may be a few specialist applications where there is a benefit, but in general, I think that adding an oil additive is like going to a 5-star restaurant, ordering their top dish, where they have spent ages developing exactly the right combination of ingredients, and then when they put the plate on the table, smothering it with the tomato ketchup you brought in your pocket. I mean you just wouldn't, would you?.

Avoid like the plague.

Oil used in the Tremec transmissions needs to be that specified and tested by the OEMs. The reason is simple, the correct oil is needed to preserve synchro function and longevity.
