993, tyres and suspension?
Discussion
I know that it's probably been discussed many times before, but it's time for me to start considering upgrades to my Carrera 2, 993, engine and brakes are certainly adequate for the time being, and it is running on 17" rims, but I definitely need to sort out the suspension and Tyres, so come on Pistonheads, what are your recommended combinations?
Bob, even in the few months I've been reading here, 993 suspension has come up and been discussed in detail on a number of occasions. 30 minutes spent with the search function (which seems to be pretty good - much better than some forums I use) will give you what you need.
To be going on with, have a look at the link below - verysideways sets out a few posts into the thread the various options and the likely costs.

And check out the 993 section of the PCGB site where there are some good technical articles - I am still undecided how to play the same game. Interesting to note that H&R springs are midway bewteen M033 & M030 - I thought they would have been harded fro some reason.
Check out Gert Carnewals site for all the options. I am toying with PSS9 and tt rollbars but may go for RS spec bars instead. Or may go M030 and have done with it. Trouble is you need to drive every variation really to make up your mind.

Having just bought my 993 I am still a way off changing anything so not too helpful in answering your question but I do have one for you! The third brake light on the roof line is not working on my TT and I am told it is a 4 hour job to fix! Any bright ideas or confirmation that this is the case? Cheers

Common fault I'm afraid.
Here's a DIY explanation:

I had 9m up in Warrington do a live remap on my old pre vram 993. Felt very different (better) afterwards.
If you want to do something about the soundtrack without the expense of a new exhaust, i'd reccomend the RSR boxes that gert does at www.carnewal.com - gorgeous popps on the overrun etc.
cheers

Bob,
As Lurking Lawyer has already pointed you to the suspension thread, i will stick to the rest.
If you want to hear RSR's you're welcome to come over, i'm only in Reading, where are you?
Wheels/tyres? Continental SportContact2 N2's, either 17 or 18. Whether you stick with 17 or up to 18 should depend somewhat on what suspension plans you have. I'd suggest deciding that first and then trying the 17's, and if you want to sharpen up steering response and outright grip try the 18's.
My C2 is on 18's but still on standard suspension (i still haven't made my mind up!) so again you can see what it's like if you want to meet up.
Feel free to mail me offline if there's anything more specific you'd like to know, or post here.

Hi Guys,
thanks for the input so far, I've certainly got a few things to follow up from the suspension thread, thanks lurking lawyer, so I will probably have a chat with JZM.
I would ideally like something with a track bias, so I will probably have to go with "adjustable" roll bars.
Thanks for the suggestions on tyres verysideways, I would prefer to stick with the 17" wheel option to keep some compliance in the sidewall, but certainly I'm looking for a much stickier tyre than the Conti's I currently have. I like the idea of improving the exhaust note, but think this will have to be considered for a later date, I will bear in mind your invitation thanks, I am in Northants.

It handles very well indeed. Do you have an LSD? Might be an idea to stick one in it if you don't already.
