Question: Can it be cleaned at all? I ask as with my last car, cleaning the MAF / AFM on a regular basis made a big difference to the car - if it can monitor the airflow and temp more accurately, the AF ratio was always consistent.
The method was simple - remove the AFM, and gently spray the temp sensor and hot wires with carb cleaner - can the LR one be cleaned in this (or any other) way?
TIA!

I take it you used to own a VW/Audi?!!! I've asked this previously with nil response. I think the problem is the Lucas hotwire is not in the centre of the air flow, but in a smaller, seperate (and largely inaccessible) duct. You could clean it by squirting electrical contact cleaner through the hotwire sensor duct using an aerosol and straw, but I think the risk of damaging the hotwire sensor is too great. Alternatively it is possible to dismantle the AFM and get at the hotwire sensor. You could then clean it more gently. TBH though, nobody seems to bother. I do wonder whether a simple clean (a la VAG) wouldn't fix 99% of people's duff 3 & 5AMS though...

No, my previous car was a 2002 Toyota MR2 Roadster - the hot wires weren't directly exposed to the airflow but were easy enough to spray with the straw method you mentioned. Unless someone comes back with any positive reports about this I think I'll leave it!
