Car Wars BBC 1

Did anyone here watch car wars tonight?
Firstly I would like to say, I fully support our Police in their fight against crime, it's a shame our justice system does not follow suite.
However.
To watch a police officer involved in a "High Speed" pursuit whilst using a car phone to report direction of travel/location to HQ "driving 1 handed", to then switch to a clip of another officer changing direction of travel to pull over a motorist for using his mobile phone and issuing him with a £30 fine has amazed me.
Did anyone else spot this?
Any comments?

They even have the nerve to drive beside and accuse some TVR drivers of doing speeds far lower than they actually were
lady topaz said: Yeah, apart from showing our force to be totally antiquated, it did come over as slightly hypocritical. To see a pursuit driver on the phone was embarrassing!!!
Couldn't resist it Di

Yeah, I spotted that. What a d!ck. This is the kind of thing that breeds public disdain for the police force.
First, he stopped the motorist in a silly (potentially hazardous) place, secondly - what exactly was he fined for? Mobile phone usage while driving is not (yet) illegal, and he wasn't told it was for dangerous / reckless driving so what's the fine for. I would have been tempted to refuse the fine....
I do agree with some of the comments, it didnt look to good!
The driver would have been given the Non-endorsable ticket for the offence of "Not being in proper control of a Motor Vehicle". If it had of been for anything more serious then it would have resulted in an Endorsable ticket (£60 fine + 3 penalty points) or in a summons to attend the local Magistrates Court.

This is just hearsay but it rings true. I have a relative who is a police driver. He tells me that they have targets and aim at stopping a certain total of traffic "offenders" during a particular shift. Any excuse will do--noisy exhaust, whatever. He reckons to stop about 15 during a days work. Most are just cautioned. His tip when stopped--get out of your car before they ask you (???) and grovel--well it's better than a £60 fine and three points not to mention the insurance company--practice in front of the mirror--"sorry officer was I really doing 90? It just felt like 50" This is not to condone using a mobile whilst driving which means you are not in full control--including the pursuit driver!
