notebook memory
Discussion
Wonder if someone can help. I have just purchased a new XPS laptop from Dell, want to add more memory to it. The laptop uses DDR2 667 chips. My old Inspiron, has loads of memory whcih i upgraded when purchased 18 months ago, but uses DDR2 533.
Do you think even the old memory will work in my new notebook. People overclock memory all the time???

Ok.
If you remove the memory from the XPS and put the Inspirion's SO-DIMM's in place then you should get the beast working. It will hopefully pull the speed of the memory out of the spd chip in the RAM and configure itself as required. Then if that works but put XPS's memory in the Inspirion and see if it'll boot.
Do not mix n' match the RAM both units must be of the same speed, same type and basically... it's got to be a matched pair.
