To all those who have removed the exhaust manifolds before, I salute you!

did mine at the weekend, what a pig of a job, just hope putting them back is more enjoyable

I had put changing mine off for such a long time reading what a pig it was.
I had also picked up many a tip on here and at the Growl and Dave Whitehouse site
I didnt remove the Starter as I have the shorter one.

I had got that worked up about it i found rather easy in the end never thought I would hear myself say that. Been back lately to re-tighten as the gaskets should have beaded an got a few more turns on all of them.


Y piece was a bit of a bugger to line up had to undo the rest of the exhaust to get them perfect which wasnt a bad thing as i needed to re-align the rear pipes as one sat higher than the other.

just wanted to let you know that my exhaust manifolds are white ceramic coated and to be true it does not seem to me that this really helps to keep the unterbonnets temperature low. but as i never had a griff without coated em´s i can´t compare it with the original. am thinking about wrapping my em´s this winter with thermotec insulation or similar and found this chart of comparison in wich a ceramic coating (also woven) is compared. www.thermotec.com/technology/material/material.html

it seems somehow logical to me that the thermotec insulation is the better technology but on the other hand it´s their own website and so certainly promotional.

talked to a customer of mine some weeks ago about this theme. he is an engineer and contructs and sells technical components for the industry , f.e. for offshore oil platforms. he told me that the perfect type of heat insulation would be such one which completely blocks the exhaust manifolds so that they are not even able to lead any heat into the engine bay. so that the heat can´t go anywhere else than through the rest of the exhaust system. he also told me that furthermore the complete rest of the exhaust system should be wrapped with such an insulation to have the perfect job done.

has anyone here any own experiences with any thermo-insulating-wraps ?

will see my customer these weeks and ask him about the thermotec insulation and the other materials that are offered by the specialized industry.
