Hi guys, I need some mugshots for my shotgun certificate application form and the nearest passport photo machine I can think of is 15 miles away.

I've only got the basic software with my mac so the only photo app I have is iPhoto which won't let me define a picture size.

Anybody know of any suitable freeware that will let me set picture dimensions and stuff?

Are you allowed to do submit images produced in this way?

Shotgun Certificate said:
This form must be accompanied by four identical photographs of you. The photographs should show you full face and without a hat (duh?) and must bear a current true likeness. The size of the photograph should be 45mm x 35mm. They should be printed on normal thin photographic paper and be unmounted.

Can't see any problems with that. I have a very good quality printer and proper photo paper. Just need to get the photos the right size and 4 on one sheet. Sounds really simple but its beyond the abilities of my current software.

is the fact your offering something essentially from home PC

so liable to having been tampered with
unlike a photo booth

One of the photos has to be signed by a doctor, judge, vicar etc to say that it bears a current true likeness so thats not an issue.

It probably wont be an issue if they don't know, just don't mention it. Rules are meant for the guidance of wise men and the obedience of fools, and all that..

Try looking in the thread which is stickyed to the top of this forum www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=213618&f=95&h=0
If you have access to a PC, GIMP is meant to be good though I've not used it myself.

We did this with our passport piccies. We worked out that based on a standard digital camera printing a standard 10x15cm snap, you needed to get the head in a fifth square of the total view finder picture size. So, divide your viewfinder in five across and five down and photo your head in one square. We were lucky in that the centering square in our viewfinder happened to be exactly the right size.

Did two passports this way with no probs.

Problem solved.

I downloaded a 30 day trial of photoshop CS2 and sorted it on there. Now how do I keep photoshop for free when the trial ends? Seeing as it took a while to download and it is such a good program I don't want to have to get rid of it in a month!
