Just specing a 997 GT3. Went through the options on this £79k motor with the dealer. Overmats are an option. In other words, it comes with now mats. Are you kidding?

Also, a question for any tekkies out there. I was informed that you must have the chrono package to get the sports button (sportier soundtrak, firmer ride) as with the carrera "s"s. Byt the broucheure says that pasm, tc and sports settings come as standard on GT3. Also, the chrono package is only half the price for a gt3 on the porsche builder internet programme. So what is the deal because I don't like the look of the dashboard clock and don't wan't it but do definately want the sport features.

The 'sport' button is standard. No need for the carbunckle on the dash.

Sport button alters the engine managemnt map. PASM alters the ride

Most dealers 'generously' include the mats.

And so they should as holding a 10k deposit fo 9 months gives them £400 plus on interest.

Just put the deposit down today with dick lovitt cardiff. Your motor was mentioned a few times. I have been pondering it for a while and I am convinced after a slightly dissapointing time with a 996 TT, the GT3 should be a much more engaging drive.

Don't spec. the ugly chrono thingy - on the GT3 it serves absolutely no purpose other than to work as a stop watch - unlike on the 997S. The GT3's seperate sport button does everything you need!

Thanks for asking that question - I was wondering too. What's the general opinion on Sat-nav for the GT3? I'm close to placing an order and this is one option I'm not too sure about. If I was ordering a Carrera S I'd have it (mainly for residuals), but is it so important on a GT3? Plus you can get a Syrius (or similar) for less money which includes speed camera alerts - surely a lot more useful?!?

I think on TT, Carrera, cayman et al, sat nav is a big plus and wil make selling on a lot easier. I found with my 996TT it was a question most people wanted answering yes. However, on the GT2 and GT3 I would be suprised if it made so much of a difference as they are more specialist cars. For 2k you can have a lot of extra goodies like sunroof?????, cruise control, chrono - and even foormats. Or, you could just ask 2k less when selling.

I think, as many others have said, you should get the car you want and worry about the sting when you sell.

Sat-nav on a gt3?,what will the 'old-school'Porsche boys think of that?Water cooling is enough to send most of them into a tirade of abuse. Can you get a tow bar on a 997 gt3 as well?

Thanks for the offer. However, a long delivery time saves me money as I am without car for 9 months. (And the wife doesn't know I have put deposit down yet!!!!!)

Anyway, why are you cancelling?

And for those of you from Streatham, Brixton and the surrounding area, a Porsche crested decorative tissue despencer for the parcel shelf with matching blank cd mirror mobile.

The new GT3 has been cleverly conceived, designed and marketed to appeal to a broader market.

The GT3 can be a basic track car with just the lwt seats and CS pack, or more of a GT road car with modern technological conveniences. Or, you can go for the RS.

There is a case for and against most of the options, but only the sunroof is a joke.

Why were the not able to solve it this way for the 997S as well? That acne spot on the dash is a bit of an insult after you already forked out the money to get the software tweak...

Geneve - did you spec Sat-nav? Someone told me it gives you alerts to traffic jams and re-routes? Is this true? I've got Sat-nav in my Range Rover and it's proved to be a good system; not too flash, just does the job - is the Porshe system any good?

if I was in the fortunate position to buy one of these things reckon I would spec:

a) if its a weekend/track/2nd or 3rd car - CS pack and light seats, no satnav or any thrills (keep aircon), in bright orange with matching orange centre console and other interior bits

b) if primary/only car - black or slate grey, BOSE, nav module, bum warmers and leather bits

I am still open to suggetions. So far have penciled in Guards Red, auto dim mirrors (I do a lot of night driving), cruise (a lot of motorway miles), red belts, thicker wheel, sound package and the "cumpoulsory options" of VTS and grey top tint. The mats I will have as gratuity from the dealer, even if swiped from an old boxter whilst no one is looking.

Any suggestions welcome...

Go for Satnav - a)'cos it's usefull and b) because the 997GT3 is so much more 'daily driveable' than the 996 that I think it will be regarded as just as important on resale as it is on other models. I've gone for it - even though my car is clubsport spec.

Hmm? £2k when a Tom Tom with speed trap detector is £400ish. It seems like a waste for something I will never use. However, I havn't asked my wife yet!!! judge

Yes I went for PCM.

Originally I was against it - preferred the standard layout for the GT3 and thought an after-market portable would be fine.

In the end, decided it would be neater, and I'm pleased. I've used it on most of my journeys so far and the latest spec. works very well, especially with the TMC. I have a RA Plus for GPS speed read out/cameras etc.
