Glider Simulator
Discussion
I have just bought the new Flight Simulator by First Class Simulations. It's a stand-alone product and not an add-on as I first thought.
The trouble is it won't run on my system.
My PC exceeds the system spec on the 'game box' but I keep getting run time error messages when I attempt to run the software.
My system is
Intel P4 2.4
XP Home (service packs 1 & 2)
1 Gb RAM
ATI X800 PRO 256Mb Graphics Card (latest drivers)
DirX v 9.0c
The program seems to be an old one requiring Win98 or better, and similarly 'old' specs from a year or two ago?
I am in contact with the distributor who hasn't resolved the problem yet.
I can bore you with the run time error message content if required (?) and have sent a copy of dxdiag to the distributor.
Anyone else bought it and have got it running?? Particularly if you've overcome similar problems to do so?

It was only released in late October/early November this year from what I can find - www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=20652
So it should run. Are you able to install it and run it on a friends machine, testing the installation routine and the disc (which could be at fault)?

I thought it was an old program only because of the dated specs, I always search my local software stores and snap up virtually all flight sim offerings on sighgt. I bought this sim about 10 days ago when it came out. I assumed it would run on present systems too.
No I haven't tried it on another system, you have a good point there. I'll do so and see what happens. The distributor told me to try 16-bit colour mode (I use 32-bit) but I'm not sure if it's as simple as that as she then went on to ask for a copy of my system by way of sending her a dxdiag attachment in an email.

Not much help with your problem I'm afraid but...
If you want a realistic gliding simulator, you should consider Condor.
www.condorsoaring.com
mainly based on online racing simulation, this is by far the most 'realistic' and accurate simulator, a good user community producing plenty of local maps, tasks and online races.
hope that helps,
Toby

Thanks nimbus. I have seen a review of Condor in an issue of PC Pilot. Thank you for the link. I'll give it some thought.

I tried to use emulate Win98 in the XP short cut program combatability mode but it failed. How would I run the program in DosBox? I've seen the program and have it on several cover disks but thought it was a DOS application and would only work with very old DOS based software only?
Win98 is a very old DOS based piece of software .. well its DOS based anyway..

Sadly, they dont do a demo version, although if you look hard enough on the various p2p networks, you can get a version that will let you play 'offline', ( you'll be on your own tho as their is no AI planes, condor is mainly aimed at online playing ), you cant patch it tho, so if you wanted to play online you'd have to buy the latest version, which is I think well worth it.
From a realism view, I've flown 'proper' gliders as my main hobby for the last twenty years, every weekend, and condor is by far the most accurate simulator.. Bombing up and down the ridges on it at 5 foot, scaring the mounting goats, then climbing in wave to 20,000 ft as the sunsets, its all great stuff
