Done a seach but can't see anything specific.
Wife switched on her laptop last night and had left a CD/RW in the drive, as soon as she logged on the machine started to format the CD!! She didn't request this as it was her backup CD and by time we stopped it, it was too late neither her machine or mine can read the disc.

Couple of questions - How the censored could this happen!? Also, anyone know of a good programme (preferably freeware ) that could recover it? I googled and downloaded a couple last night but they didn't seem to work.

Any help most gratefully recieved and a beer at BTaP awaits if you are going!!

PS, I had a spare back up but it wasn't quite as up to date, and no will no longer use CD/RW to back up!

The best tool i know for this sort of thing is ISOBuster. (www.isobuster.com) . Has always worked for me. Usually on corrupt disks though. Don't know how good it is on re-formatted disks, but worth a go. It used to be free, but not sure if it still is.

yes If you really need to recover the data, there are companies that provide this service for quite a hefty charge normally.

Have you managed to recover any of the data?

Recovered nothing, nothing could be seen by either machine, however Isobuster can see loads of data on there, you can download it and it will show you what it can recover, if you want it recovered you have to buy the key at $30. Message now with wifey to see if she thinks it's worth $30 to get it back

Still puzzled as to why XP decided it was time to format the flippin' thing!
