..mentary ('Correspondent')on BBC2 Monday night? The sheer hypocrisy of the treatment Israel gets compared to the rest of the world is mind-boggling!
There is strong evidence that Israel has chemical weapons, yet no independent inspections are allowed!!
How is that supposed to make the Arab world feel then, just before an attack is launched on Iraq?
Incidentally, the documentary was almost never shown following protests by the Jewish lobby - it had originally been scheduled for broadcast on Sunday at 7.15pm before being moved to Monday at 11.20pm!

Missed the programme as I wanted to watch it. To be honest there is hipocracy (SP?) throughout the world on this issue and if you notice the politicians words have changed in the last few weeks to avoid this. Its a joke, a very serious one at that.
Right, time to put my cards on the table - I for one do not support the Israelis on anything that they do. I have known for some time what they do to palastinians (SP?) on a daily basis. Used to be repression and now its 'anti-terrorism' to make it more PC. Its a joke and if you look at the numbers we are running at 10 - 20 killed every week by Israeli forces.... thats hundreds per year, yet the world stands by and does nothing.... The beef that the Arab world has with the west is that we do nothing to stop the Israelis - which is pretty much true... its a crime that we let this systematic genocide continue while worrying about some madman in a desert that hasnt really done anything against us for some time....
There have been resolutions from the UN calling for Israel to stop doing things, stop developing new weapons etc. Has that stopped them? No. Do we plant 250,000 soliders on their doorstep to convince them to stop? No, we just let it carry on.... so now they have chemical weapons now.... now there is a suprise...

The israeli-palestinian situation is similar to that in Northern ireland.
It has gone on for so long, and both sides have each committed untold atrocities, that any moral justification for eithers actions is long forgotten.
It is now just a case of each hitting the other in response to the other hitting them. An endless cirlce.
I was glad to see Bush seems to see that a radical push for peace is required and the support for a Palestinian sovereign state.

Totally agree with you, Paul. It's a shame most people don't seem to give a damn. I hope it doesn't take some terrorist incidents closer to home to make people wake up and smell the coffee. Of course, all terrorism is a crime and completely unjustified, but while gross injustices are perpetrated througout the world by the 'West', the warped organisations that recruit potential terrorists will have no shortage of volunteers.
Well i guess you would feel different if all your neighbouring countrys had sworn to remove you from the face of the earth , it not right that the Israelis have them but if any one needs them its them, and are you saying Syria do not have them .

I think you'll find the important word you used there was "used", Mike. The policy of force vs force didn't work, I don't think. Maybe the Israelis might like to take note of the mistakes of others and themselves before they kill too many more innocent civilians.
Nobody is saying Israel does not have the right to exist, but the killing is not going to solve the problem and one day it's going to have to stop and they are all going to have to work out how to make the peace happen. In the meantime, well, I despair.

But it's ok because, er, don't really follow the deep logic being used.

In the previous context, I was talking about me not questioning their right to existence.
So you don't blame the Israelis for killing innocent women and children, it's justified because (a) evil terrorist scrotes are hiding amongst them, and (b) it's all Arafat's fault anyway?
The bigger picture is that Israel needs to attack the terrorism problem at source, by working to take out the underlying reasons for that terrorism. All they are doing at present is keeping a very hot kettle simmering.
If you grew up in a camp in the occupied territories instead of in Sweden, and you saw endless carnage and meaningless destruction meted out on those around you all your life, I wonder if you'd be sitting calmly at your keyboard being so understanding.
We're talking tanks, modern weapons, the lot, against people who are being slowly squeezed further into shanty towns piled up with rubble.

Great argument, attack the guy with the opinion. For your information, I did. I enlisted in the Marine Corps during Desert Shield. Because the war was so short, I missed Storm. But I served as an Arabic linguist in the years that followed as a Recon Marine. But I don't know anything about the issue, do I?

I grew up in England , the Israeli`s acepted 85-90% of what the Palestinians wanted , but no Arrafat refused the peace deal and went home and stired up shit with his people to distract them from his failure .
Have you ever been to Israel , i have, and i have seen how the average Israeli gets on just fine with the average Palestinian, as ever its the governing bodys that screw things up to protect their own interests , the Palestinian authority is corrupt through and through
, nobody ever talks about the summery executions and human rights voilation`s carried out by the Palestinians on their own people

i have to agree here, the news in this country is very biased.
i remember learning back in school ahow the british upper/middle class in the late 1930's all suppoerted hitler in germany. ( i am not makin any comparisons here - justa stating a fact about uk) and lest we forget it was england and france that ****ed up most of the middle east crisis, when it just puilled out back in 1940's
