hi all, the remote boot opening function on my key has packed up. the other key functions (door locking / opening, alarm setting etc) are fine but the only way to open the boot is via the button in the glovebox. a bit of a pain but not the end of the world.

two questions:

1. i can't even open the boot manually with the key in the boot lock - am i doing something wrong?
2. the local dealer says it will need a new key / re-coding etc @ £350. does this sound right? any other options?

i think i'd rather suffer the inconvenience!

thanks,

keith

The fact that you can't use the key in the booy lock makes it sound to me like its got a different lock barrel. Does the key turn at all?

I had exactly the same problem...

1. try pushing down on the boot lid as you turn the key as it's probably a bit stiff as it's never been used - worked on mine
2. the boot release relay (next to the battery on the right in boot) clicked like normal when the button was pressed so it sounded like it was working but when I swapped it for the one next to it it did actually open the boot, new relay about £2 from Maranello, bargain!!!

hope this helps

I wonder if the dealer would have charged you the £350 for the key they reckoned it was even though it was only a relay?

probably! tbh i didn't really trust their diagnosis and i don't rate them generally. car ended up there cos i flatted nearby and i got them to check a few things out whilst there.

i am trying out an independent specialist in manchester in a couple of weeks - need new tyres and alignment doing and some other stuff so i'll see what they are like. they come recommended and i work in manchester sometimes though they will collect from yorkshire.

is that Autoshield by any chance?
If you use them you'll have to let us know your experience/cost/etc
because I'm thinking of using them in the future, or alternatively
Strasse in Leeds come recommended.
