Feeling the need to deal with a long standing temptation, last weekend I yielded.

After 122,000+ very enjoyable miles I have p/xed the M5 with my local dealer. Fingers crossed the DVLA enables a speedy plate transfer, I should have the M6 by next weekend.

Silver and black btw.

Congrats. clap Some grubby oik oop north should be collecting his M6 this weekend, no doubt we'll get some epic text to translate monday morning. hehe

Did you drive both the E60 M5 and M6 prior to making your choice or just dive straight in for the M6?

Spent 3 hours driving a new 2005 M5 demonstrator but only had two twenty minute drives in an M6, in different M6 versions, a 2005 and a 2006. Both the 5 and 6 drive beautifully but imho a 6 both looks better and I believe feels more nimble on familiar roads.

I ventured out in the thing last night - currently formulating a suitable set of responses but for now, the overwhelming word presenting itself is MIGHTY.

Other appropriate words and phrases include masterpiece and tour de force.

I need something absorbent...

Didn't realise you'd bought an M6 , der. Hope you didn't buy it new!

Enjoy it. It has the capacity to astonish anew every time you take it somewhere new.

Zod, it is a thing of seemingly infinite permutation.

The thing which impressed most was how strong in base 'P400' mode it felt compared to the (E39)M5 - I only used P500 briefly and the performance ramps to what certainly feels like 911 Turbo-rivalling schnellerlunge.

Combined with a truly mouth watering raft of GT credentials and a sound - on moderate to maximum attack - not heard since Julius Caeser returned to Rome.

I'm saving P500S for the morrow.

Shall I drive straight to the police station?

Hi, just changed my E39 M5 last week for an E60 and it is a truly amazing car, totally different I think from the E39. As Derestrictor says, its quick in P400 mode, and the sound is a joy. change to P500, another planet, as is the noise it makes! That said, not sure about the SMG box especially on upward changes, doesn't seem that quick. Other problem is petrol consumption which is majorly worse than my E39, hoping its just cos engine still tight at 2000 miles, but not optimistic, only getting 11-12mpg driving locally (E39 around 18mpg). All in all though a fantastic car and looking forward to learning about it over the next few months. Didn't consider M6, tho love the 6 series, think they look fantastic and with the M engine must be really quick, needed more space!

Watch out with P500S in this weather, particularly if you have MDM on or DSC off, der! One of the other chaps here with an M6 had a little trouble last week on a slip road.

Nice one.

I'm now going the other way for the winter & i've got my E60 M5 up for sale. They are a bit of a handful at this time of year & even with full DSC the ar%e end really does like to pop round for a chat.

The M6 is an awesome beast but as i'm dying to get into a 997 Turbo, i'm selling up, having 12mths of sensible (see cheapish) motoring to add coffers to the bank balance in readiness for some Pork.

Paul,

A couple of boys from the hood hoved into my rear view yesterday, in a 997 Turbo but, a full team on board meant my blood - which was as up as ever - had to be deboiled and cooled in favour of the Blauporkular Massiv which was terribly annoying. They nonetheless gave da Cripp sign of acknowledgement and I feigned brotherhood whilst internally weeping for the fallen at the seige of Antioch.

Still, this thing is so overwhelmingly capable, on every level, that it is enough to let the vermin fly, from time to time, whilst chunnering along at legalish 'raption, immersed in the gurglegrowl, in an Arniefied shuffle of pent up "all-f@cking-hell's-gonna-breakloosism."

Just pootling around yesterday and I somehow did 300 miles, never going more than 30 miles from base.

It is likely that staff from the local Shell emporium and I will be on dining terms by the commencement of Yule.

Joy? JOY? Orgamissimo!

You chaps really need to have a look and listen to these M5's with aftermarket exhausts:
http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?d

This clip starts with the camera man asking that all too commonly heard heard question when you are around an M5: "Does anybody need gas?!"

Going through a small tunnel:

M6 VS M5:

V8 vs V10 M5's:

V10 vs 997TT (The M5 actually creeps ahead of the 977! Rolling starts from 50km/h to 250km/h):

I could go on and on. There are just so many great clips of the new (and older) M5's on Google Video. Most seem to be from M5/M6 Board.com

Sweet as the sweetest of sweet things.

Bonkers is the best work to describe these cars. BMW really did crack it with that awesome 5.0 V10.

Charles, don't be ridiculous: I now have the progenitus, recently the grandfather and am actively thinking great grandpapa - selling the father would seem a little odd.

Toodle schnell! rotatedriving

You mean E34??

I came accross an e34 clip too with an eismann exhaust. Fabulous sounding car. The picture is poor on this clip and the sound is delayed but it is one beautiful sounding beemer:

Dino, E28.

You know, I just drove the '34 a couple of miles through dank, strangulated, rush hour purgatory and strangely, it was far more relaxed than in the E39.

Even with the 'Nurburgring' set to soggy 'P,' there was/is a fluidity to the steer which is comprehensively smothered by the later car (yet seemingly back, to some extent, in the E63.)

At this rate I'll sprout a 'tache and be calling myself Gordon Le Purist!
