the merlin people are very good. If you fail the noise test, you measure your exhaust and go and get a suitabel dongle from them. If it fits and gets you through the test you pay, if not, you give it back. Excellent!

You could sneeze and the neighbours would complain!!!
But We do have many radicals on track, At the last charity day there were 4 doing rides, none needed silencers and it was a 100db day!
SOunds good to me Mr Marshal! get me through a 100db static noise test and I'll be there giving rides!
Graham
Its not Mr Marshal....even if he is Marshal of the year.....you need to bribe its Andy.....and all the tea in china wont win him over! If he says its failed stay calm walk away and try something different
When I ran the bike trackdays there the number of people that used to shout and swear at him then end up either eating a lot of humble pie or going home was high. Andy is very fair...but sticks to the rules!
The words you will need are "yes sir" and "no sir"

How did the rads get by on a 100db day? I thought all the track days there were 98db static? Anyway, I cant get below 103 at anything like the proper revs.
Is Andy the er very experienced chief noise tester chappy? If so he was very friendly and quite helpful, but of course firm. I of course didnt even bother to get upset, it's not his fault.

Noise is a tricky subject....and Combe is no exception.
I'm quite lucky as my car weighs in at a healthy 96DB, this is actually quite embarrassing as you are allowed 108db on a race day and most ask if I will turn my engine on!!!
With the non linear characteristics of the db scale for each 3DB is twice as loud as the last.
Councils are getting clever with their noise meters patched directly into the offices showing real time readings of the flybys. Goodwood has 3 one of which is in a really dangerous place!
Personally I don't have an issue with noise...I know people move near by then complain....why I don't know??? Hopefully I'm looking at buying a house near the circuit...mainly cos it will so much easier walking there for a race meeting!!!

For a start Radicals have bike engines (well the sr3 does) so that is done at 3/4 throttle rather than 4500rpm
And it wasn't really a track day except for two session around lunch time.
As said, you won't get away with it at Combe, but they will do everything they can to get you through! (with the help of Merlin, which is a huge advantage to doing track days there!)

How much roughly are they? My Scoob has a Miltek exhaust and Registered 101db at Donington on a 98db day
so require a bung
Tony
I got the rad down to about 103 at 3 yellow change lights with a merlin dongle. That's 7k rpm. At 5k (1 yellow) on a good day it measures at 99.
I'm trying to find time next year to race in the CC Gt series. It's looking remote, but might be poss. Should be ok with noise there!!
