Hi Guys,

I'm on the hunt for advice & information while I look at buying a Gallardo. I know it's a wide question but can anyone point me to useful resources for info & advice? I'm still undecided on the whole e-gear vs manual thing & can anyone clarify when the clutches were revised & if it was a warrenty/recall or if it was just revised & most owners opted for the updated clutch. I'm looking at around 2004 for the car, were there any minor changes or uplifts during the production? Where can I find details of any options & list of standard equipment for '04?

Cheers,
Alex

Any car you enquire about, you should ask if it has had a clutch replacement, then find out which dealer did it then speak to them, and find out if it was replaced with the upgraded clutch.

I think that the clutch problem was sorted at sometime in 2005, any cars that have had their clutch replaced under warranty after the new one was introduced would have had the upgraded clutch put in.

I am unsure of the exact date.

I once sold a gallardo with 1,500 miles on it that was on its third clutch!!!!

Personally I like E-gear, I think it works really well, but thats just my opinion. Nothing wrong with either gearbox, just depends what you prefer.

Cars with Nav are worth more than cars without.

yeah, I figure for me, I'll probably be wanting an e-gear, with the updated clutch, Satnav & no daft interior colours lol.

Cheers for the advise on the clutches, one less thing to worry about I guess - From what I've read the updated clutch has solved the problems?

Find out how much warranty is remaining on the car (if any).. and good luck with getting an extended one.

In that case, you want a DeLorean, not a Lamborghini.

Yep, there was, just ignore the bit where it comes to the conclusion that because a Gallardo can be bought for £80K and an F430 costs at least £100K that the Gallardo is a steep depreciator (since they were comparing an 04 Lambo with an 06 F430)

colours: Fave has to be blue (probs has a proper name but it's a dark blue pearl)

I'll grab a copy of Evo, it should make interesting reading.

Re the warranty, is it not extandable? I drive an S4 at the moment & Audi/Mondial are happy to extend the warranty up to 5 years providing it's extended before it expires.

Also while I'm on the topic, my gut feeling is buy a well maintained one with higher miles at a lower price - I doubt I'll be putting a huge amount of miles on it even though it'll officially be my only car. I can walk to work & even if I did drive it takes ages to do the mile & a half & then there's no parking spaces when you do get there! Is that false economy?

No extended warranty available. When it expires you're on your own yikes

You can get a warranty for any car if you pay for it (Warranty Direct/Warranty Holdings).. but they're normally restricted to maximum payouts nowhere near the cost of a new Gallardo engine.

Don't even THINK about ytring to get a third party warranty which will cover and engine worth £60,000!!!

I would love a Lambo, but I would have to buy a Ferrari instead as at least you can buy an extended "Power" warranty from the manufacturer - I think Metcalf in EVO has this on his 550 and got a new gearbox when it started to graunch.

Lambo need to sort this IMHO. If I can get a comprehensive warranty from Porrsche on a £130,000 GT2 for £895 a year, up to 10 years or 125,000 miles, surely this makes it a safer proposition than a Lambo?

AS it stands only Rod Stewart and simonspider can afford the risk hehe

Correct. I was a gnat's dick away from buying a gorgeous 456M a few months back - then I found out that the claim limit on the warranty was £500 hehe which is a bit short of the £30,000 for an engine rebuild..................

I maybe wrong, but I think there are more black Gallardos than all the other colours added together. I like 'em but they don't command a premium (the opposite I think)

Cheers for the link Extreme - not a bad looking car. I don't like the aftermarket alloys or the black/cream seats though.

Oh & I'm guessing I'd like Satnav if the budget allows - I doubt there's a suitable place to stick the tomtom

Does anyone know when the belts need doing etc? I've seen a few with notes in the ad saying it's just been serviced to the tune of 4-5k - I'm assuming that's a major service, possibly clutch or belts rather than a 6000 mile service
