Is Air Con a must?
Discussion
Not got it but never really wanted it either. I've got windows that open and a roof that comes off. I get stuck in traffic jams and I drive in central London and I can honestly say I've never thought 'oh, I wish I'd got air con'. I'd rather spend that quite large sum on something else.

No. To be honest the air con fitted to TVR's, is to be blunt, at best shite !
Absolute rubbish generalisation.
Even during the hottest day this summer mine was kicking out enough cold air on the move to chill a can in the glove box.
Ok, not so cold standing still but it's sucking in engine heat.
If yours isn't then go to your dealer and get it fixed before slagging it off.

Not rubbish FACT !!!
When your on the move there is enough airflow not to be a problem.
The time when you do need it :ie stood in traffic it is rubbish.
I stand by my comments, it's your money but I wouldn't bother.
2k to blow slightly colder air,
for this cash it should be climate control.Mr John said:

Stuck on the M11/A14 change over in July this yr is basically 40C heat and the air con made a world of difference and again out in southern France earlier in the yr at around 40ish again and the air con making the difference from intolerable to nicely chilled.
When I tried to sell my Tam to a number of dealers, almost the first question was
"Does it have A/C?".
So I'd only go for it if you think you'll need to trade it through a dealer - the few private buyers around don't seem quite so bothered.
From reading this and other threads, the A/C seems a bit hit or miss as to whether it'll work as intended (strange this from TVR
).

i have the option of having air con fitted on my t350t and have seen mixed reports on how good it is?
I know it will help in reslae value but is it really worth getting it retro-fitted?

Retro-fit is about the same cost as the factory option would have been.
I you feel you need it, its a worthwhile investment as it will make your car so much more desirable to the next owner.
Previous TVR AC attempts were poor (Cerbera etc), but it seems to work on the T350s I've driven with it fitted.

I have a 350C and most certainly needed it at Le Mans this year. Ok it isn't great, but it keeps the car bearable when it's very hot. I wouldn't consider a 350C without it and I think it affects re-sale value a fair bit (though I haven't seen many Cs advertised without A/C)
Totally agree. The 'C' gets way too hot & I would have thought in really hot weather, having the lids off in a Targa would get unbearable if you got stuck in traffic.

i have no air con, there was only 2 days i thought hmmm maybe i should have it, instead took the lids off, once through the traffic and open roads all is cool again!
not worth 2k, unless you are one of those big fat people who sweat an awful lot on a nice day, (no offence to anyone)

You don't count Graham as you live close to the Arctic Circle!!!
I would say you must tick the box for A/C on a T350.
1) It makes resale nearly impossible, even dealers will not be interested
2) During hot weather - the interior particularly the gear stick gaitor area becomes unbelieveably hot..
The A/C compressor has either 3 or 4 cylinders - as opposed to 16 on a Jag, Bentley etc.. there is also much less room for all the associated gubbins - so the TVR A/C is never going to match that on another class car - sorry but it's a fact but it does a fair job.
You can improve the car in that additional heat insulation can be added to key area's ..
TVR may already have done this on later cars - but I did this on my older T350 :
Create a blanking plate for the engine bay area behind the headlight - otherwise hot air can be drawn straight into the interior ventilation inlet.
Add additional heat insulation in the gear lever / handbrake tunnel area - I cut up an old fireblanket (glassfible) and covered the whole area and taped it all down with Duck tape. This made a huge difference.
I would still tick the A/C box though and the Alcantara just does not last - so leather seats are a must
