I'm selling my house and will not need the cash for a while and toying with the idea of putting my name on the waiting list and then putting it up for sale as soon as delivered.

The thinking being I cannot really afford to own a Ferrari otherwise but being a lifelong fan (my Mum tells me Car was my first word, and speculates Ferrari was my second) and they still seem to be going over list a few months old with a couple of K's on the clock.

Just wondering whether anyone has tried it, and whether you get the usual tyre kickers, time wasters on resale?

Risky ??

F430 Stradale safer bet ?

It's too late to flip a F430, the gold rush is over. Having your name on the waiting list now means you won't see one for a good while.. which means the golden days will be long gone by then.

IMHO the only thing you might be able to flip at the moment is one of the new Aston V8 roadsters if you can get one for easter time and flip it mid summer. Not sure exactly what the waiting list is on them but its normally possible to get an Aston far quicker than a Ferrari.

Only issues with the Aston is:

1. There will already be people in the queue for one (letters of intent)

2. People are able to jump the queue ahead of you (as happened to Cem)

3. The AMV8 wasn't well known for holding it's value even from the start and faces stiff competition from the Gallardo/F430/XK8

Speculating on cars is the best way to make a small fortune.

Out of a big one.

The prediction I made a month or so back for a good car to flip is the AMV8 N24.. only making very small numbers and sure to hold it's value (long term) if you get it with the road-pack

Get your name down for the F430 replacement and flip it as soon as it lands on your door to the highest bidder!

Yes you will be waiting a few years but as said above, if you put your name down now for an F430 you will not get it for a while anyway so it makes sense (from a purely profit point of view)

Too late to make any money on a 430 (some of the dealers have new cars at list)

and if you are not already a customer I seriously doubt any dealer will sell you a 430replacement car before 2010

Friend was on the list for a v8 - got it and sold it (without ever driving it) and only got list.

Think Aston adjusting production to meet demand means there is limited scope for this. I think you may be right though in saying wait 2yrs then stick my name in and hope for a 430 replacement, but Ferrari dealers are as bad for bumping people up the list - I can see it now.....

"Hi I'm a footballer"
"Yes sir delivery tomorrow ok?"

"Next please"

"Hi I'm speculating on supercars I cannot afford"
"Yes sir delivery 3yrs time ok?"

Also when new models appear you get pulled forward while regular customers and notorieties push theirs back to get the new model.

Any new on the F430 Stradale ?? Sure if I got an early delivery on one of them I'd do ok....

Junior – if the woman gets her hands on it we’ll be rattling around in a mansion we don’t need….. plus if I’ve spent all my money on cars its not available for separation. Keeps her loyal

you could perhaps wait for the gallardo replacement in 2008 if you put your name down & flip it immediately

I'm not saying your going to make any real profit on it but I do think that if you can get an Easter Aston v8 roadster you could drive it for 3 months and get your money back. Demand for open air motoring always goes up with the start of summer so it would be perfect timing. Like most things there is some risk but the worst case I think you will loose 2 - 3k. Depends if you can risk loosing that.

Not a chance you will get a Ferrari F430 replacement early in the production run unless you have purchased several cars from your dealer in the past.

F430 Spyders have been doing premiums, New Bentley Convs were but there are plenty about..........Baby Aston was for a little while but they are 15K below now.....only way is a very early new model (not 12 cyl) Ferrari......you need nerves of steel and big balls.

Its risky...if you car is delayed a few months or the premium is not existant then what? If its really spare money have a go, but it can go the other way. I know to my cost.

The thing is, manufacturers (like Ferrari) have the ability to produce far more cars than they used to, I think they sold more 360s than all their previous cars put together.. as such the demand is met sooner and premiums shorter lived than in days of old.

I wouldn't put money on the 599 fetching a premium, sure dealers will try to sell them on at a premium, but the first owner will be lucky to see the purchase price back.

Other thing to remember is Ferrari agent probably wont sell you another car or at best will make life awkward if you try and buy another from them if they find out you have speculated with it.........

True but Ferrari still produce less that 5000 cars per year total. Obviously the vast majority of them are left hookers so rhd cars are still in small numbers. Compare that with the 28,000 911's that Porsche sell each year.

Speculating on a 599 is a different ball game to trying it with a 430. The market for people who will spend £200K on a car they know will shed its value very quickly is small.
