Hi,

I've been lucky enough to get my hands on a damaged crank, it was 'chucked in' to a deal with a few other bits of AJP that I bought. It may be scrap but thought it was worth investigating.

Anyway, my question is, has anyone had any experience of reclaiming crankshafts? I've emailed a few companies but any first hand experiences would be appreciated. Oselli seem to offer most services: www.oselli.com/services_engineering

I'm looking at rebuilding my 'lump' and one option is a billet crank at £1.5K but I'm looking at other options.

Comments/suggestions...

Its commonplace to grind the journals undersize and rebuild the engine with suitable bearings. But this only works if the crank isn't too badly damaged...

So it depends what your "damage" is. Scoring or light wear should be fine.

Hi Tim,

No idea on the crank refurbishment but I did hear from a reliable source that the 4.2 cranks are no weaker than the 4.5's

Oh and my engine is back in

All we are waiting for is the oil pressure warning light sender to be sent by TVR. Apparently its "been in the post" for quite a few days now!

I could run it without but it would be taking a hell of a risk with a brand new engine. I dont suppose any one has a spare knocking around?

cheers

Hi Matt,

Are you sure they are the same. I thought the cerb ones were modified to work on a higher pressure?

Andy,

I need to have a chat with you soon about plans for my engine, I hear that you're getting race engines lined up for winter rebuilds.

We're talking a lot more than marks here. yes

I've had experience of polishing journals on several rebuilds on various engines that I've rebuilt over the years, but this damage is a bit more extreme.

Thanks Andy - This lack of parts is rapidly becoming a real nightmare!
