Anyone else bringing their two way radio along ? Could be very amusing with 250 Tivvers egging each other on, perhaps those at the front can point out landmarks for the amusement off those following....for example oh look theres an Audi TT everyone point and giggle...

Argos do a cheapy 8 channel set for £9.99 www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/par

Are they paired
If you all use the channel one as someone suggested then you should all be able to listen and talk to each other, one at a time though.
and
Are they hands free NO is the answer.

Simple answer is - these radios all use a common frequency so whoever you buy from and whatever type they all work together. Some are a bit cleverer and have sub channels , so you get 48 channels for each of the 8 major ones. But for mass communication we just use the main channel so any old radio set to channel 1 will do. Of course only one person can speak at a time so it can be a bit chaotic but thats part of the fun. Not hands free so bring a suitably loud mouthed passenger. My Mrs fits this description perfectly and will be my radio op for the day ;-)

Mrs derekg500 here! I bought my hubby a pair of these from Argos today and they reckon on a range of 3km. Billynomates reckoned it might be more like 100 yards so hubby has just run up the road in the rain to test them out and I can happily report 1mile & counting! If anyone sees Mr derekg500 heading in the Crawley direction could you please tell him he can turn around now?!! hehe

IME you can get about 2 miles line of sight, but yes it does reduce to a few hundred yards in the city - should be fine for our purpose !

We take these everywhere when out with the kids , saves those annoying 'now where the hell have they got to' moments....

I have FOUR of them that I used to use for airsoft and convoying.

I disagree with using channel 1.

I have used these radios before for many a convoy from just up the road to driving right down to Italy and find that you actually get cross chatter from other tts who have bought radios but don't know how to use them and just leave them on channel 1. In my experience, channel 5 gets the least cross-chat from other people.

Channel 5 for the radios it is - Ive never used them on convoy and bow the greater experience :-)

To be honest with that many of us using them I dony think the cross chatter is going to be a problem.

Im so ready now - car fettled, flag tested only a week of work to go !
