Hi there! We are presently building a Westie bodied LSIS based on a modified locost chassis. Blacktop Zetec, MT75, AP brakes, Compomotive MO's, aluminium composite floors, etc. etc. The engine is moved way back in the chassis and the front suspension pickups are relocated and strengthened. The geometry is loads better.
The question is this. We are going to spray the fibreglass panels in satin black.
We know this could put some people off but would like your reactions. Would you entertain buying this car? It will be for sale soon on PH as well as on fleabay.
It won't be finished but will be well on the way.
Would a low enough price sway anyones opinion?
We would appreciate any input. The paint goes on this weekend. I might even post some pics. Thankyou, Geoff.

Satin black looks great IMHO. Cagiva displayed a satin black Mito at the NEC a couple of years back, and it looked fantastic, really purposeful.

If you can find a source for satin black auto paint, I'd like to know about it.

I'd certainly consider it, but I'd subtract £1,000 off the sale price so I could get it sprayed in a colour I like.

For the answer to this question just check out the satin black Cerbera that the owner has been trying to sell for months and months...

If you're keeping it for yourself, spray it any colour you want, but if you're painting it to sell I'd chose a more popular colour.

Could look nice, but do bear in mind that satin black is the best colour bar none for showing up surface imperfections on fibreglass - and Westfield's moulding quality isn't the best in the business!

When restoring old Lotus', its common practice to spray a light coat of black over the primer, once you think the preparation is finished ready for the top coat, specifically to highlight all the nasties. You then flat back through the black 'guide coat' to primer, again, before applying top coat.

It is readily available in 2k from any automotive paint supplier. Mixed and applied in the usual manner. I will ask at the bodyshop for the paint code and post it.
Thanks to everyone for your comments. It is now a fait accompli and looks fantastic. All the inner panels and floors will be riveted in with ally rivets for that "motorsport" look.
We thought that satin black would contrast nicely with a real carbon fibre dash panel and the white Compomotive MO's. It should end up looking like the Westie in the link posted above.
Some minor panel imperfections are highlighted but we weren't looking for a "concours" finish and won't be expecting "concours" money when it is sold to make way for our next project, a Stuart Taylor Phoenix.

Easy-peasy - just ask your paint factor to add matting agent to your paint - works on any colour you like!

Sounds cool...

...but another thing to watch is how you clean it, and whatever you do, make sure it never sees any polish or the like or you'll end up with a really patchy finish. I've got some satin black detailing on a car of mine and accidentally got some polish on a windscreen pillar - it's never really recovered......it was 2k paint by the way, black with flatting agent added.

Here are some pics of the car. I will add a few more tomorrow with the rest of the bodywork on. It should be on fleabay tomorrow evening. Should make a great winter project for someone to finish. We have too many projects ongoing. As you can see it's a lot shinier than the satin westie posted above. Comments welcome. Enquiries also welcome.
There is even a project within a project, the bike carb conversion. 42mm Blackbird carbs. CNC billet manifold. Geoff.
